Incredibly enough, I've had a really high response rate to my email blast so far. I've also found a lot of new rate information online. Which means I will only need to call five papers, at the most. Hopefully fewer, if any of those remaining five get back to me by Wednesday. I can handle that, probably. Which doesn't mean I will not be a nervous wreck - just that I might manage to keep a lid on it for my coworkers' benefit. *sigh*
Also, there will be overtime next week. Up to 10 hours for everyone on my team. Since I need extra cash pretty badly, I SHOULD be taking as many extra hours as I am being offered. The thing is, I can't do 10 extra hours unless I start earlier than usual in the morning, because we are not allowed to stay in the building past 6 p.m. And on Saturdays we have to vacate the premises by 2 p.m. So if I start at 9 a.m., I can put in 7 extra hours at the most (well, 7.5, assuming I am never late - which is a very unrealistic assumption, I have to admit). So, should I attempt to drag my ass out of bed earlier just to make the additional thirty bucks per week or so, after taxes and shit and stuff?... Or should I just say fuck it? I am barely managing to show up at the office by 9:15, feeling less than half-awake at that, for heaven's sake. I totally wouldn't mind staying longer in the evenings - it's not like I have a life, anyway.:/ But mornings? Jesus God. I am SO not a morning person, it's embarrassing to even talk about it.:( And it doesn't matter how early I go to bed. I've tried. It really doesn't work. I can handle getting up at 7 a.m., but if I drag myself out of bed any earlier than that, I will inevitably crash sometime during the day. As in, zone out in front of the computer for twenty minutes, or have to resort to taking a nap on the toilet seat (no joke). Not to mention the fact that my "productivity" will not likely be worth writing home about. But hey, they pay us per hour, not per amount of work done. So maybe I should try it. I bet I would shock everyone speechless if I showed up at 8:30... lol. Knowing me, though, if I plan on showing up at 8:30, it will probably end up being 8:45 or so anyway. I just don't have a coherent enough grasp on the passage of time in the mornings.:/ Or I do if I have to... but then in the afternoon I MUST take a nap. Or I am useless. Sad but true. *shrug*
So it looks like another exhausting week ahead, at any rate. At least, if there is overtime, I can allow myself to stop thinking of finding a second job for the weekend. Because, yeah, enough is enough. If a Sunday is all I have left to myself, then damnit, no one is taking THAT away from me. I must have SOMETHING, to make this miserable existence worth dragging on. Otherwise it's just pushing a boulder up the hill over and over again, only to let it roll back down once you're done. According to Greek mythology, that was hell. And the worst part was that the poor guy couldn't just sit down and say "fuck it", no matter how absurd it all seemed. Which is a really good metaphor of my life at the moment, now that I think about it. *mirthless snort*

Well, as of right now, there is a massive snowstorm/blizzard warning for the entire US Midwest for the next two days, so actually getting to work at all might prove a little tricky.:/ I don't think I want to be driving in an icestorm - so I'll have to get up earlier anyway, just to make it to the office on time by public transportation. I'm not sure I want to be outside at the bus stop either, but yeah. If you take a day off for whatever reason, you don't get paid for overtime (or you do, but at the regular rate, not the overtime rate). Unless they close the office for the day due to extreme weather conditions - which might or might not happen. I'm not holding my breath for it, though.:/
I've totally napped in the loo at work, so don't worry, you're not alone
Heh. I think I recall you mentioning it before. I'm so lucky no-one at my workplace actually keeps track of how long people stay away from their desks. Of course, some common sense rules apply - as in, don't disappear for 30 minutes right after you log in upon arrival etc. - but lunch breaks and all other breaks are taken at the sole discretion of each employee (for lunch, you have to clock out, but no-one's going to know how much time you spent in the bathroom unless you boast about it... lol).

I've been really tired at work lately and my eyes get all tired and won't stay open so I've been going to the loo, putting my head down and hoping someone will come in so the noise will wake me up completely. My problem at the moment is, we're pretty short-staffed and they can see when you're not about. *g*

It's wet and gray, mostly. Freezing rain and "wintry mix", which I hate. But at least the huge snowpiles lying about the streets have somewhat diminished, which is a good thing.

Yep. That's what I do (not when we're crazy-busy like in recent weeks, but during more quiet periods). Sometimes I would totally zone out, to the point where my legs fall asleep (because of the weight of my folded arms and head on top of them). That sucks, and it takes a while before I can get up and walk out of there (have to wait out the pins & needles, you know).
