assorted babble

I didn't get sick, after all. Friday night & Saturday morning totally felt like the beginnings of a cold, but by Sunday it was gone. I wonder why. The thing is, on Saturday morning I went to see my chiropractor, who also happens to be my acupuncturist.:) And I told her I was definitely coming down with something. So she said, OK, we're gonna put some needles into the points near your spine that should trigger your auto-immune response. And I was like, sure, whatever. I certainly didn't expect immediate recovery - but looks like that's what happened. Acupuncture rules, people. Seriously. *blinks*

I mean, I did take some chewable herbal cold remedy tablets that I had bought back when I still shopped at Whole Foods, and some Vitamin C Halls candy, and drank a few mugs of a medicinal "cold stop" tea that my dad swears by - but that was it. I somehow doubt that it would have been enough to cure me within two days.:) Anyway... even my period wasn't as bad as it normally is. Just the usual fatigue and slight nausea, which I mostly slept through. So by yesterday afternoon, I was perfectly fine - and still on vacation, yay! So I used the time to move forward with my computer clean-up project. STILL organizing pics (I have SO many gorgeous images saved on my hard drive: manips, landscapes, other artwork, amazing photography etc.; I had forgotten most of it was even there, lol), as well as video files. I recovered about 5 GB of disk space by removing some old Viggo interviews that had been burned onto CD's.:) Still a lot to go - I have to watch the stuff, of course, before deciding what to do with it; some clips are so extremely badly recorded and blurry that I can't think of why I saved them in the first place.;P But others are extremely nice, and it's been a great journey down memory lane for me. *nostalgic sigh* Fanvids, too; both Aragorn/Legolas and Viggorli. Those were good times, my friends, and the memories will be cherished forever. <33333

I'm still on vacation today, so I couldn't resist a little shopping trip to T.J.Maxx. Nothing extravagant - just a few pairs of socks and tights (I need plenty of those to get me through the cold season - and I had just discovered that a few old favorites didn't look presentable anymore ;), a packet of rustic style Italian crackers and a small jar of rhubarb jam (T.J.Maxx is the only place I have ever seen rhubarb jam, and it's the best jam ever). And... a wok. A large, stylish wok with a wooden handle that has some Chinese symbols carved on it. $9.99. I foresee a renewed interest in Oriental recipes... lol.

I also finally called customer service to recover online access to my Alliant Credit Union accout. I've been putting it off since forever... but they sent me an email saying that they didn't have my current mailing address, and I couldn't access the account to update it myself, so... Anyway - I have both a savings account AND a credit card with them, and I have been receiving the credit card statements at my current address, but I can't recall the last time I saw a statement for the savings account. As it turns out, the account and the card operate from two different locations, and one of them did have the wrong address for me (I opened that account back in 2006). All corrected now - and while I was at it, I also told them about the name change. So now a copy of the court document proving my legal name change has been mailed to the correct location.:) And while I was checking the website (which I haven't looked at in a few years), I also discovered two things: 1) they had increased my credit line from $500 to $1000; 2) they offer a free credit score to all their members, and my current score is 794. That's pretty high, isn't it?... How ironic. I wonder if that score will show up on my official (currently blank) credit report once Alliant Credit Union processes the name change. We shall see, I guess...

Anyway... enough babbling for now. I have some cooking to do (seafood stirfry with broccoli, leaks, Japanese noodles and lots of fresh herbs like garlic and oregano; the wok arrived just on time, it seems :D).

I'll bet the rhubarb jam is yummy!

It is.:) My grandma used to make rhubarb preserves when I was a kid, but here in the States rhubarb seems to be an extremely rare plant; more so than some tropical fruits, lol.

Alternative medicine can be a blessing when it does the job.

In my experience, it usually does. Besides, I have a deep antipathy for pills and other chemicals - so whenever I can get better without them, I'm happy to do so.:)

Around here rhubarb is mostly mixed with strawberries to make pies. It's not uncommon at all.
