Haven, basically

Went to see Haven yesterday (it's only playing in downtown Chicago, but I was lucky to catch a ride with [livejournal.com profile] akashaelfwitch and a bunch of her friends, so I didn't have to drive there myself and get lost in a maze of crowded one-way streets and underground passages again, like after the Chicago premiere of HoV... *relieved sigh*). Not sure how much I liked the movie as a whole (would have to watch it again to figure out all the characters' shady business dealings and connections, lol), but the psychological/emotional aspect of it definitely made an impact. And I am very pleased to say that Orlando's character had a lot of substance and depth, imo. It's definitely one of his best performances. He made me feel so deeply for the character that I was on the verge of tears (just held myself back because I didn't want to appear as the world's most pathetic sap in front of Akasha's friends, lol). In fact, I am still kinda shaken - I even had a strange movie-related dream afterwards - and it's not because of a crush on Orlando, which, unlike some people, I DON'T have.:P It's because of the emotional power of the story, and Orlando's good acting. Yes, I am finally convinced he CAN act - he just needs to let go of the whole Hollywood Blockbuster hoollaballoo and focus on small, independent films like this one, where he can be more than a pretty face strutting around in a glamorous costume. He does have personality, you know. Just give him a script that lets him show it. Paradoxically, it's his looks that make it difficult for him to get appreciated for who he is - so I'm not surprised he wanted to play a character with a big scar on his face. And he was still beautiful - though more from within. I hope other independent filmmakers are going to notice him now and give him a chance. He totally deserves it.
/preaching to the choir, LOL

In other news, there are some new gorgeous Alatriste interview clips on [livejournal.com profile] viggo_vid. Both Viggo and Ariadna Gil are just... mmmmmmm.;) I can't wait to see that sex scene... lol. (Did I just say that?... it's HET OMG!...;D ;D ;D) I guess being attracted to people of both sexes means you have to enjoy het on some level... *ponders*

Anyway... enough useless babble. I'm meeting another friend today for a cozy evening of movies and girly gossip ;), so I'd better get ready. The weather is most inviting for a sofa-based kind of entertainment, lol (it's been raining on and off for days). I need COFFEE, or I might fall asleep behind the wheel... *shudder*

*POUTS* And it does not play down here!

And there is not even a release date in Germany. None whatsoever.

I wanna see that movie, too!!!111!

.... Deep breath - okay, /rant now. Thank you for sharing your impressions of the movie!

I was of the opinion that Orlando Bloom could act since I saw him in Elizabethtown, which I liked very much. BTW. And I always wanted to see haven since I first heard about it!

Oh, I'm sorry it's not showing in your area. Hopefully you'll be able to get the DVD somehow when it comes out.

Elizabethtown wasn't bad either, I agree - at least Orlando's role in it.;) I wish he would do more films like these...

[livejournal.com profile] galor5 and I saw Haven last night too, and I have to agree. Orlando ought to let Viggo start choosing his movie roles for him - this type of smaller, more intimate character-driven part is perfect for him.

That's a brilliant suggestion, my friend.;)
