I'm having weird issues with my browser - whenever I click on something, I get the message that the website is "not responding". Refreshing usually works, but then the next time I try to do anything, the message comes back again.:/ Or the site freezes for a minute or so. And it's been happening with a bunch of different sites, so I know it's not just one particular webpage with problems. Also, my internet connection seems perfectly fine. So I figure it must be the browser. I have Internet Explorer 9 - the latest fancy-shmancy version that is supposed to be oh-so-cool. Any ideas on why it might be acting like this?... It makes web browsing extremely frustrating - not to mention posting LJ comments and stuff like that. I am actually making this entry as a test, to see if I am able to post under the circumstances. If it comes through, I'll try to do another one...

Both Mum and I have this issue with IE. I also run firefox, which is virtually glitch free.

I don't have Firefox on my computer at home, but I do have it at work, and sometimes use it when IE goes wonky. I wonder if I could install it at home. Is it downloadable for free from the net?...

I use Mozilla's Firefox for most my browsing and Google's Chrome for downloading massive amounts of pictures. IE is buggy now and then and carries more risk for viruses, spyware, trojans, etc.

Firefox has all sorts of cool ad-ons you can use. I use Invisible Hand and when I shop online, it runs silently and unseen in the background and almost instantly shows me what site has the best price on any item I am looking at. When you shop, it puts a banner below the web address with the best price on the internet and a link.

I also use McAfee's free version of Site Advisor as an add-on. When you do a Google search, each site in the results has either a green check or red or yellow "X" nest to it to tell you whether the site is safe to visit. I have lots more add-ons that do all sorts of things.

Jump in and get your feet wet with Firefox. Ask for help if you need it. I was a die-hard IE user but love Firefox now. It's a pretty easy program. i also use Thunderbird, Mozilla's email program. All the above are freebies.

Thanks for the info! Actually, my dad is waxing poetic about Opera, which is supposedly even better than Firefox - so I haven't quite decided which one to download yet. Also, I am lazy and don't fancy having to recreate all my bookmarks - so I am still putting up with IE for the time being...

Oh! You can easily import all your IE bookmarks to Firefox with a few clicks, and probably can to most any other browser.
