ugh
Hello, everyone. I survived Christmas.;) Actually, if I had a T-shirt saying exactly that, I would be wearing it now.:P Because I can be very good and virtuous, diet-wise, when I am on my own; but when surrounded by MOUNTAINS of unhealthy food, happily shoved in by everyone in sight, and actively ENCOURAGED to join the fun, I waver... LOL. And even though I didn't pig out half as much as I 'normally' would have at Christmas (my stomach HAS shrunk a bit in the past few months, believe it or not), the results are still kinda scary. According to the scale, I gained about FOUR POUNDS since Monday morning. Yep. Ain't that grand? First you work hard for over a month to lose that much, and then you gain it all back in three days, because it's Christmas. Hallelujah. Looking on the bright side, it's a very valuable lesson for me, and I am going to file it in for future reference. As the evidence clearly shows, one unhealthy meal at a time (like Thanksgiving, for example) won't really do any lasting damage; but a succession of three (which is really the total number of actual meals I had while at my parents' - with hardly any snacking in between) definitely will. And the funny thing is, I didn't even try all the dishes my mother had prepared (or ordered from the local Polish store, LOL). There were simply too many. Of course, she was more than willing to pack up some 'take out' for me - but I already had a gut feeling I wasn't going to like the scale's verdict after getting back home... so I gracefully declined.:P Still, I'm feeling mildly disgusted with myself at the moment. Not to mention that my stomach - or possibly liver - kinda hurts (switching back to the 'heavy duty' stuff after months of eating light & healthy will do that to you, I suppose). Oh well. If anything, it only strengthens my determination to get back on the right track and stay there, thank you very much. *nods*
Okay. Change of topic. I bought the Eastern Promises DVD yesterday, and I am disappointed to note that it contains very little by way of additional material. Only two short documentary features: one a typical 'making of' story, the other specifically about the tattoos. Very interesting, that's for sure... but how about a longer Viggo/David interview, deleted scenes, premiere footage etc.etc.etc. There was so much extra stuff on A History of Violence. I guess I expected just as much here... *regretful sigh*
Well... I guess that's it for tonight. I am tempted to whinge and complain some more, but enough is enough.;) There's a lot of lovely Christmas V/O fic posted all over my flist; I'd better save time & energy for catching up.:) Best mood-lifter there ever was.:D

It's probably water retention or temporary gain, tbh. Our bodies are good at adapting and a brief binge won't result in permanent weight gain, unless it becomes habitual.
To be a permanent sort of weight gain that would suggest you ate 14,000 calories above the rate you burn daily (12-14x your weight) and that would indeed be impressive. ;)
It's all good. Think long-term and this is just a short, enjoyable blip on the chart, right?
As for me, I ate way too much over the holidays too,a nd it wasn't even much in the way of good food.

You're probably right. It's not showing that much anymore.:) I sort of panicked, I guess.;)

Well, my theory is, if you ARE going to overeat, at least make it something good (so you can tell yourself: "I sinned, but it was worth it").:P Which it was - provided you were born in Eastern Europe, of course (since I happen to know at least a few Americans who wouldn't touch some of my favorite ethnic dishes with a ten foot pole...;). Or, perhaps, if you enjoy any type of food that's rich in butter, sour cream or mayonnaise.:D
