random ramblings

Dyed my hair today. Probably the deepest flaming copper it's ever been. Ruined two towels and made a mess of the bathroom, but it was worth it.:P Now all I need is a facelift, and I can pretend I'm 25 again.;D

In other news, I finally saw a chiropractor last weekend (which I probably should have done years ago), and she said my upper back was knotted up as all hell (not in those words exactly, but you know ;), and it would take quite a few visits to loosen it up to a comfortable level. So it's definitely a good thing I still have my health insurance. *nods*

In more irrelevant news, I am very happy with my Netflix subscription. They have a huge selection of foreign/independent films, and the DVD's actually get here, usually a day or two after the email announcing that they have been shipped. They don't get lost or stolen. Only once did I have to report a missing DVD, and it was replaced very quickly. I have seen many interesting movies in the past few months - some of them definitely deserve a post, but there likely wasn't either time or energy to make it. One I have to mention, though. The Kite Runner. An absolutely stunning tale of friendship and sacrifice, loyalty and betrayal, guilt and redemption, cruelty and kindness. It carries an uplifting message at the end, but gets very dark and disturbing on the way there - so keep a box of tissues handy if you plan on watching.;) Seriously, it will kick you in the gut if you are squeamish or tend to have intense emotional reactions to the sight of (however fictional) cruelty or injustice (like yours truly). But it is totally worth seeing nonetheless.

And that is all for tonight. *yawns*

Hey, I like the colour! And I envy you your curls *damns her own straight hair*...

[identity profile] floatingleaf.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.:) The color looks much more vivid in 'real life' than on the picture. When I was rinsing the dye off, it took about twenty minutes before the water ran clear... lol.

And there's nothing wrong with straight hair. Elves have straight hair.;)

i've been doing chiropractic for 20+ years. love it. i hope yours is a good one and that you have great results.

Hi!:D

Well, I felt only marginally better after the first visit, but she said it would take time to knock me back into shape, so I'm hopeful.:)

i think it's very normal that you don't feel a big difference right away. i went every day for about three months when i first started all those years ago, then gradually worked it down to once a month (but i have scoliosis, a curved-where-it's-not-supposed-to-be spine, so i'm sure you'll see much quicker results). chiropractic helps me a lot with depression, and has completely eliminated migraines for me.

it's funny, whenever i use this icon, i have to sit and gaze at if for a while. that batch of pictures just makes me feel so good about where orlando seems to be in his life.

Heh. I seem to recall that an X-ray of the lungs I did about ten years ago included a comment saying I had a 'mild S-shaped scoliosis', or something to that effect. Not sure if it's still mild at this point... LOL. Some days I think I'm well on my way to becoming a hunchback.:/

As for Orlando, he is beginning to look mature - there is still that youthful freshness about him, but there is also a relaxed confidence I don't recall seeing before. Not the coquetish 'I know I'm sexy' kind of confidence, but more along the lines of 'I have finally grown up and know what I want'.:D And, in its own way, that's sexy too.;)

Nice color! It shows up pretty well on my monitor but I imagine it's even more vivid in RL. I've been a redhead as well, but sadly, no curls. I do, however, have a head full of straight hair with a mind of its own. Perms don't take correctly and I wouldn't want to try again anyway since I've had to switch to permanent color. Gotta keep the gray at bay! ;D

Have you decided on a vacation spot? It's 90 here today and just awful. I came home from running errands practically drenched, UGH. I vote for some place cool unless you go to the beach.

We love our Netflix as well! Great selection, mostly great service, decent price. Works for us.

It's MUCH more vivid.:D

Gotta keep the gray at bay!

Tell me about it! *sigh*

Have you decided on a vacation spot?

I have, actually. I am coming to the Slashy Retreat in Dallas. Just booked my flight (both Nancy & Gayla said it was still OK to join, even though it's past the deadline, lol). See you in a few weeks!!!...;P

Awesome!!! I look forward to seeing you again. Fun shall be had. :D

i thought that scoliosis was something one grew into as an adolescent, and then that was it; you didn't change after that. scoliosis is a side-to-side curve. the one you see sometimes with aging is front-to-back, and has a different name, i think? not sure it matters, but if you have a mild scoliosis, then i think you should be okay? mine's more than mild. i'd research it, though, before taking me at my word; it's been too long since i've read about it.

and as long as orlando has a reasonably happy life, i think he's probably always going to be stunning in my eyes. sort of like ian and viggo; just... better and better.

Oh, OK then. Thanks for the info. I probably should do some research. I'm pretty ignorant in medical matters, I admit. All I know is that my spine doesn't feel right - but hopefully the chiropractor will fix that.

And yeah, some people age like wine.;) I've always suspected Orlando would be one of those.:)
