my little pathetic joys and sorrows, lol

I am SO tired. I worked 9 hours today, starting only 30 minutes earlier than usual - and yet, I feel totally depleted of all energy. I don't know how people can do 10 hours a day or more. Unless there is considerable variety to their work. I was doing more or less the same thing all day, and at some point my brain pretty much turned itself off. The funny thing is, I often do 8,5 hours - and it's usually fine, unless I'm not feeling well for whatever reason. So maybe it was the earlier start that did it. I know most people would scoff at the immense 'hardship' of having to get up 30 minutes earlier - but to me, it does make a difference. And my crazy early bird coworkers keep telling me how much longer evenings I would have to myself if I only chose to start work earlier in the morning. What they don't get is that I wouldn't really enjoy those longer evenings very much, because I would feel like I'm going to fall flat on my face any minute. If even a half-hour difference has this effect, how could I possibly start work at 6 or 7 a.m.?... That is just plain INHUMAN, no matter what they tell me, LOL. And I am NOT going to start hitting the pillows at 9 p.m. either, thank you very much. End of discussion. Keep your silly farm animal habits to yourselves.:P

In other news, the company managing our medical benefits is giving out $100 prepaid American Express gift cards as a reward for filling out an online health questionnaire. I just got mine in the mail last Saturday, and then promptly grabbed my car keys and went shopping.:) I had promised myself that I would spend this $100 on a few 'non-essentials', just to feel like a human being again (I am so tired of denying myself all kinds of stuff just because I CAN live without it - what happened to the inherently feminine habit of 'shopping for shopping's sake'?... lol). So first I went to Target and got new bathroom rugs (the old ones pretty much fell apart in the washer some time ago) and a new vinyl tablecloth for my kitchen table (the old one looks very battered with all the cooking I do - there are no counters in my old-fashioned kitchen, so the table is the only 'workspace' available). Then I went to TJMaxx, my favorite discount store with all kinds of curious odds and ends (from clothes to food), and bought an assortment of fancy snacks/condiments and toiletries. Like, for example, jasmine scented foot cream, rosemary-flavored Italian crackers and - I kid you not - Roasted Garlic, Onion & Fig Jam. Yes, such a thing indeed exists, and it tastes delicious.:D (I think I was inspired to try it by my Mediterranean cooking experiments - otherwise I might have gone, who on earth would eat THAT???... LOL)

Actually, it's kind of embarrassing how happy this little shopping trip made me. Several months ago, I wouldn't even have mentioned it, because I used to shop like that nearly every other weekend (which goes a long way in explaining what happened to my savings :/). Now it feels like such an incredible luxury. On the other hand - is it such a luxury to be able to get new bathroom rugs when the old ones are in shreds?... How spectacularly pathetic.:( Or I am just now learning how living in the real world and managing your own finances works?... *sigh*

But I am getting better at it, am I not? I got all this stuff and there is STILL some money left on my gift card. I might order a yaoi comic or two.:D
