oh well

So, I did watch that old Viggo flick I mentioned a while ago (La Pistola de mi Hermano). It's a strange little movie about a pair of troubled teenagers. And it's not nearly as old as I thought - it was made in 1997. So Viggo is actually 39 it in... LOL. He plays this weird character named Juanito, who works in a slaughterhouse. The first time we see him, he's handling a huge chunk of raw meat, wearing an apron splattered with blood. Very Viggo-style, you have to admit.;P Then he changes into an extremely gay flowery shirt.:D He has a wife and a little kid, and there is a definite dark subtext to his relationship with them - very subtle, yet very unsettling in a trademark Viggo-way. The whole movie is quite unsettling, though not nearly as good as it might have been if the other characters were given more depth (yet another one of those flicks where Viggo really stands out and "steals the show" without even trying, despite the fact that his screen time is about 10-15 minutes total). You never quite begin to understand why the protagonist suddenly starts shooting people. It seems totally random and stupid - unless that is really how teenagers become serial killers (in a random and stupid way). Also, the English subtitles are really badly synchronized - they begin to appear about 30 seconds after the start of a conversation, so it can be quite challenging to figure out who says what. In other words - unless you have a massive fixation with Viggo and like to engage in extensive mental analysis of his superb acting skills... don't bother.:P

In other news, the weather is very grey, windy and uninviting, and I feel lethargic, but strangely restless at the same time. My customary walks to the neighborhood grocery stores exhausted me far more than they should have, and I wanted to talk about other stuff, but it's late now and my brain is shutting down.:/ I can't do the "night owl" thing anymore, even on weekends. It's no fun getting old... LOL. *sigh*

Okay ... then I know I won't have to dig this up somewhere. ;-)

No... I think not. Which, once again, makes me the winner in our little "who's more obsessed with Viggo" contest...:D

You definitely win as I haven't even watched The Road and Good yet ...

Wow... shame on you! :D :D :D

I went to the Good premiere at Chicago International Film Festival! I sat in the first row when Viggo was accepting a Career Achievement Award from the festival organizers. So I know for a fact he has just as strong an effect on me "in the flesh" as he does on screen...;P

Totally unrelated to your post (well, except maybe the "getting old" part, lol!) but Happy Birthday :D

Thank you! :) And yes, the "getting old" remark was directly related to this momentous occasion... *snort*

I was seriously thinking about trying to hunt this down, now I know I don't need to do that. Viggo does tend to 'steal the show' quite often, doesn't he? Oh and I hate it when the subtitles do that, it is really hard to follow and normally I give up on the film before the end.

I hope you have a happy birthday! :)

Yes he does. Precisely because he is focused on being in character and telling the story, not on being the star - like some of the more famous actors...

And that's one of my favorite behind-the-scenes pictures - the Elf clearly unable to keep his hands off the Ranger/King...:D <333
