a little bit of everything, I guess

Looks like I haven't posted here a bit longer than usual. I totally meant to do so last Saturday, but somehow ended up too braindead in the evening after a day of errands and stuff... And now I feel like there's too much I want to talk about and I can't decide where to start. So what's new?... LOL.

Well... all those long, rambling posts I've been making in my head while I go about my daily routine are irretrievable, I guess (unless I take a month off work and spend most of that time typing them up, which is not an option). Instead, I give you a brief, random bullet point update that may seem incredibly shallow and inconsequential. Oh well... c'est la vie, I suppose. *sigh*

1) Most people on my flist, American and otherwise, have made some sort of comment on yesterday's big event, and I don't want to leave the impression that I am ignoring it completely - so I should probably say something too. Problem is, I could either make a long, rambling post on my general, deeply ingrained cynicism in regards to politics (and I obviously have no time for that), or simply shrug and breathe a quiet sigh of relief that the pre-election media frenzy is over. And yes, I am profoundly glad that Obama won - but I also freely admit that said gladness has much less to do with my opinion of Obama than it does with my opinion of Romney. There. Enough said.:P

2) I sort of got my period a few days ago. About a week and a half early, I might add. Well... I say sort of, because it kind of started - and then it stopped. Except not quite, because I still feel like it might start again any minute. WTF, Mother Nature?... Are these the joys of early menopause or something?... Am I about to be menstruating twice a month now, or am I just about to be PMS-ing for two weeks at a time?... Can we get it all done and over with, pretty please? Thankfully, I don't feel too bad - just a little grumpy and tense, and my boobs are extremely sensitive (and NOT in a good way, LOL). But still... the whole thing is just annoying. There seems to be no point in marking anything on the calendar anymore...

3) I watched an interesting film last weekend - Give Me Your Hand (original title: Donne-moi la main), about 18-year-old twin brothers who hitch-hike across France and Spain to attend their mother's funeral. But there's really nothing in the movie about the mother herself (whom they apparently never knew), or the funeral. It's all about the bond between the brothers, and how it is put to the test when it suddenly turns out that one twin is gay (which is, apparently, quite a shock to the other twin). It's one of those quiet, introspective films with beautiful photography and minimal dialog that I love so much...

4) Apparently today is The Birthday of The Vampire Lestat.:D I say apparently, because I don't recall the date being mentioned in any of the books (which I am in the process of re-reading, so perhaps I haven't reached that particular place yet). And honestly, I do have a bit of a problem with that. As you may or may not be aware, I am big on astrology - and Lestat is a perfectly quintessential Leo if I ever saw one (and I have known a few, up close and personal, in case you're wondering... LOL). I mean, his last name is de LIONcourt, for heaven's sake - don't even TELL me Anne Rice didn't do that on purpose. And a birthday in early November would make him a Scorpio. Which does fit him to some extent, I suppose - fearless and passionate and determined as he is - but no Scorpio (or any other astrological sign, for that matter) would ever strut around with an ego quite THAT size.:D Scorpios are control freaks, sure enough - but they are perfectly happy to exercise their control from behind the scenes, pulling strings and cackling quietly to themselves.;P They don't crave the fanfares and the public recognition. Of course, I do realize I am making the usual mistake of assuming that EVERYONE, including famous authors, knows or cares about astrology as much as I do, and should adjust their characters' birthdays accordingly, to match their personalities.;D I know. But I can't resist.:P Well... I suppose he could be a Scorpio with Leo rising, or something... (no, I don't have bigger problems at the moment - and if I do, I am choosing to willfully ignore them, thank you very much, LOL)

5) In another random bit of trivia, I've read somewhere that Brad Pitt donated a ridiculous amount of money to support gay marriage. I don't know any details - it was just a headline flashing at the bottom of the screen while I watched some news at work early this week, and I am too lazy to Google it now - but anyway... GO BRAD.:D I knew I liked you for a reason...;)

And, sadly, that is all.

I'm with you on the opinion of Romney. Obama hasn't done much to earn my ongoing support but Romney scared the living daylights out of me.

Sounds like you're having some of the same issues I am. My calendar still gets marked but I see no point in doing so anymore. It's like riding a rollercoaster most of the time: I never know what to expect.

Take care, my friend.

Precisely.

Damn. You'd think that periods would become LESS frequent and bothersome before they finally end. At least that would be logical, you know. But I guess logic doesn't apply to Mother Nature's plan in this regard... *sigh*

And yay for Brad! :D

I see a lot of interesting films through my Netflix subscription - I just don't seem to have the time or energy to write lengthy reviews like I used to... *sigh*

Cool! I didn't know Netflix was available outside of the US...
