a random shopping post, for a change :)
It is warming up slowly. I actually have the window open at the moment, since it's gotten a bit stuffy in here. But there is more rain coming and the air is quite humid, so "airing out" the place isn't helping much. I keep forgetting that the only way to "feel a breeze" inside my apartment is to turn on an electric fan...
Today I dragged my Nook Simple Touch out of the cabinet where it had languished unused for the past year or so. I still have a stack of unread books in paper form on my shelf, so I felt no urge to buy more - but then I was sort of tricked into it, LOL. See, we have this little "library" at my workplace where people bring used books and magazines, and a few weeks ago someone brought The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I had seen the movie, which absolutely floored me (there is a post about it somewhere in this journal, can't be bothered to look for it now), so naturally I was curious about the book - and so I started reading it during my lunch breaks. Unsurprisingly, I found it absolutely captivating. It became the highlight of my day at the office... LOL. And then, one seemingly unremarkable afternoon, I walked up to the shelf in the break room and - to my utter dismay - found the book GONE. Someone else must have taken it, obviously - and since this is no actual library and no-one is keeping track of things, there is no way for me to tell who it was and if (or when) they mean to return it. Ironically, I was just approaching the big climactic scene which I remember so well from the movie. There was no way I was going to just sit back and wait for the book to reappear on the shelf. So I popped on over to the Barnes & Noble website and got myself a Nook version for $9.99.:) It was very easy to find, since Khaled Hosseini happens to be the "featured author" at the moment (he has just released his THIRD novel, btw - and The Kite Runner was his first - so I think I know what my next Nook purchases will be...:D). Interestingly, I also found out from the little blurb that he was born on March 4th. Yes, just like yours truly. Might possibly explain why his writing evokes such a deep emotional response in me - I recognize a "kindred soul" in it...
In other news, I also ordered more fancy tea from ESP Emporium (http://www.espemporium.com/). I found out about them through a Daily Deal from Amazon (I don't even know how I first started getting those emails with deals and coupons - I don't recall signing up for them or anything, and usually I just ignore them... but when I saw a big discount on fancy, expensive teas, I was intrigued, and ordered a few samples - and I'm afraid they got me hooked now... LOL). This weekend they had an offer of a free tea tin with each kind of tea purchased - so I ordered three different kinds, and now I am going to keep my fancy loose tea in fancy tins.:P Yes, I know. Silly indulgence, perhaps. But tea is my elixir of life, truly - I down at least 4-5 mugs a day (sometimes more). So I might just as well try some exotic flavors in addition to the usual cheap stuff from the local grocery store...
I was also well on my way to order some lovely jewellery from an Etsy store which I accidentally discovered through Tumblr... but they are located in Ukraine, and apparently I can only buy stuff from them through PayPal, so I have to put some money in my PayPal account first. They have FREE WOLRDWIDE SHIPPING, though, and the jewellery itself is very reasonably priced (about $20 per piece) - so it's not like I am breaking the bank on a whim, LOL. Actually, I haven't indulged in any sort of random "retail therapy" in a very long time - since last year, I think. I still have the $100 Kohl's gift card which my dad gave me for Christmas... LOL (luckily, it has no expiration date). I just didn't see anything I liked the last time I went there. Apparently, I go through phases where I am just not in the mood for shopping - and then, when the mood strikes, I suddenly want at least five different things at once. But I still think I am less extravagant about it than I was during my misspent youth...:D For one, I really have nothing to worry about if those "shopping frenzies" hit me no more than 2-3 times a year...

Not fair of you not to tell what the Etsy store is called, though. ;-)

Haha. Believe it or not, but I didn't bookmark the site, and I can't remember the exact name. I will have to scroll back through my Tumblr favorites to find it again. I'll do that once I have the PayPal funds available - and when I order the stuff, I'll make a post about it, I promise.:)

I found Khaled Husseini's second book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, very powerful. Though I don't know if I could say I enjoyed it, as such... it made me cry my eyes out.
You have to have a bit of retail therapy every once in a while :) And it's all the more satisfying when it's not something you do all the time.

Oh, but I LOVE crying my eyes out over books and movies. I'm a masochist that way...:D
