brief and pointless

Wasted a few hours at the mall today, trying to find some nice fall/winter clothes. Came back almost empty handed (most of the clothes I saw were totally unappealing, and those that did look nice were made for women with flawless figures... which means they became quite grotesque as soon as I put them on :|)... except for a bunch of scented tealight candles, LOL. I swear I am addicted to scented tealight candles, ever since my mother gave me this little ceramic container where you put a burning candle inside and some potpourri on top. I have at least fifteen packages - different scent each - hidden away in a cupboard. So I may be fat, ugly, unemployed and generally useless to human society at large, but at least my room smells nice.:P

And to think that shopping for clothes used to be so much fun... *sigh*

Well, I guess it belongs to the list of things that are only fun up to a certain age.:/ Like staying up long past midnight... LOL. *yawns and logs off*

You know, maybe it is not so much that you are oversized but that the avarage size of those clothes is unrealistic and made for women who abide to the unrealistic 'beauty' ideals of starving oneself to the point of underweight? :)

When I go shopping (and I *am* fat, more than I care for, sadly enough), I see most of the avarage clothes size are bwtween 34 and 42 max, while everything larger is hardly in evidence. I do not know if they produce less of those greater sizes, or if, since most women down here *have* size 42 and bigger, those greater sizes are simply bought out sooner. But do they produce more of the bigger sizes to meet the need, then? Noooo.

On the other hand, I am about 5,7 feet tall. Even when I was twenty and weighted a lot less, I had just size 40, not smaller, and I was not overweighted then, but had the weight that was *healthy* for my size. So? I believe the beauty ideal is a tad unrealistic.

And like a lot of women at my age, I have gained a lot more weight now, and realistically I will never meet the weight I had with twenty again. Good thing that some companies have got the message and produce good and great looking clothes for 'oversized' women, too, now.

Actually, in the USA there are plenty of clothes for oversized women, since the majority of Americans are significantly overweight; but what defies my understanding is why most of these clothes are designed in a way that does not look flattering on a round body at all. For example, the fabrics cling to all the abundant curves, instead of masking them; or the pant legs taper down towards the ankle, thus emphasizing the big butt. WTF??? I'm not grossly overweight - not yet, anyway ;) - but my belly does stick out a bit more than my boobs, unfortunately, and I know exactly what type of clothes I should wear to make up for that annoying disproportion; except that this particular type of clothes is very hard to find. I need pants that keep my stomach in check without clinging too much to the butt and thighs - if you know what I mean. Relaxed pant legs that widen towards the bottom work best for me - but they don't seem to be making those anymore!... I only have one pair that still fits, and I can't be wearing them every day, can I?... What they call a "relaxed fit" here is a huge shapeless baloon on thin legs (and that just grosses me out... lol). As opposed to the tight fit, which works only if you don't have a spare ounce of fat on your bones... *sigh*

I wear size 12 right now, which I believe corresponds to 42 (they are using the same size system in Germany as in Poland, aren't they?) - but I am only about 5,2 feet tall and have very small bones, so I could safely lose at least 10 kg and still not be too thin for my height... lol. The ideal would be losing 15... not that I delude myself it's ever going to happen.:P But I did wear size 4 (34) only three years ago, when I had some physically demanding jobs (cleaning houses, running around a retail store all day picking up merchandise etc.). I hated those jobs with a passion, but Lord, did I look good!... *wistful sigh*

Well... I guess everything comes at a price. If you sit comfortably at a desk most of the time, your butt WILL get bigger, no matter what. LOL. So if that's the inevitable consequence of my internet addiction, I think my only option is to get used to it. I will NEVER quit LJ and LOTR slash. Never. Even if I have to say goodbye to some of the nicest pieces of clothing I ever owned.;D

But I wish I could go on a shopping trip to Europe one day, since I think the clothes there are much more aesthetic/tasteful than here. Most of what I see in the US (at least in moderate price range) is some appalingly garish crap with mismatched colors, gilded buttons etc. I like my clothes simple and elegant. I don't need fake pearls or pieces of glass sewn into my collar. *shudder* The eighties are long over, for God's sake!...;P

Anyway... sorry for the long rant, but it seems to be a sensitive topic for me.;D
