So I took my dad to see the doctor yesterday. A good gastroenterology specialist, supposedly one of Top Doctors in Chicago (as testified by a plaque in his waiting room). Dad was impressed by the professional treatment - a far cry from his regular GP, who didn't seem to have much of a clue what to do with him anymore. Anyway... the doctor thinks most of his problems (stomach pain, indigestion, even the blackouts) could be the result of a failing gall bladder. Which is not that uncommon at his age. As well as perfectly treatable. But he prescribed a number of tests to confirm the diagnosis. So there will be more appointments. I'm glad I have plenty of vacation time available this year. Of course, my sister & brother-in-law will take him to some of those appointments, too - but it wouldn't be fair for them to shoulder it all. It's a long drive for either of us - and I'm the one who gets plenty of paid time off (both my mom and sister are self-employed, so if they skip work, they lose money). I only wish I had a car that didn't threaten to fall apart any minute... but let's not tempt fate here by even mentioning that. *shuts up*

I have seen a few people on my flist do a summary of the past decade in their lives. I wasn't going to do one (I think the decade actually ends in December 2010, doesn't it?)... but what the heck. In the past ten years, I accomplished the following:

- acquired my Master's Degree;
- moved across the Atlantic with all my belongings contained in a single suitcase & a backpack;
- met, planned a future with, and then got dumped by someone I thought I loved, but probably didn't;
- had a fling with, and then got dumped by, someone I thought I didn't love anymore, but probably still do;
- decided that staying single is the most sensible, hassle-free option under the circumstances;
- lost - and gained - and then lost again - a considerable amount of weight;
- changed citizenship;
- discovered TEH INTERNETS and the joys of fandom;
- went through a series of insignificant jobs ranging from cleaning lady to corporate office drudge;
- grew up (I think).

That's it - in a nutshell. Trying to squeeze a decade into a few sentences actually makes it sound like an interesting, adventurous life... almost. But don't be fooled, dear reader.;P

I hope that the gallbladder lead turns out to be what is wrong. It will be good to get a handle on it, and gallbladders are easily removed. I had mine out a few years back and haven't had any problems from it.

I didn't know some of that about you. :)

That's good to know. Thanks.

Well, some of that was done and over with before anyone ever friended this journal.:)

So you keep saying. Thanks for sharing. I know that most people, myself included, think the decade ends next New Year's, but I liked the idea of the whole, rounded number for starting over.

it seems things are going as it should with your father. good you found a skilled doctor. It was interesting to see your decade summed up in only a few sentences. it sure looks adventurous enough to me!

Hey girl! How are you doing? How's the Big Bump?...;)

it sure looks adventurous enough to me

Yeah, it probably does - if you consider the fact that I am in general a very non-adventurous person.:P
