Saw the trailer for Eastern Promises. Oh dear. Viggo seems to be mostly naked in this movie, nicely waxed, tattooed ALL OVER and seriously kicking ass.:P Oh, and he speaks with a BELIEVABLE Russian accent. As in, believable for someone who has actually talked to real Russians.:P I have a distinct feeling this is going to be MORE creepy than A History of Violence (which is, of course, a good thing ;P).

Which reminds me that I STILL haven't seen Alatriste. Yes, I can order the original Spanish DVD, but what would be the point if I can't watch it anyway? (it's 'region 2', obviously) And that, in turn, reminds me that there supposedly exists some kind of software that allows a computer to recognize and play all DVD formats. I know someone once posted some info about it on one of the Yahoo groups I belong to, but it was long ago and didn't save the link. I tried to google it, but all I got were websites selling multiregional DVD players - which is not something I'm interested in at the moment (I don't own a TV in the first place... LOL). I want to be able to watch European DVD's on my PC. Any helpful pointers, anyone?...

In other random news, I had a very erotic dream this morning, involving someone I honestly haven't thought about in years. A 17-year-old boy I had a serious (though pretty innocent and nearly platonic) crush on when I was 14. Holy moly. Looks like I just don't get over people, no matter how much time goes by. My poor little heart is so very crowded now... lolol. (And btw, after that dream I just couldn't resist googling his name, which I accidentally remember - and sure enough, there is an internal medicine practitioner of that name working at a hospital in the nearest big city to the little town he was from... lol. Of course there is hardly a way of proving that it's actually him - he didn't exactly have the most unique name ever, and there were no photos available; not that I would recognize him after twenty years anyway... But still. Maybe there was a reason for the dream, and maybe I was meant to find out what became of him. Or maybe I'm just off on one of those 'living in the past' tangents that seem to hijack my mind more and more often of late...;P)

I think that most PCs can play DVDs from any region (unlike most DVD players that are region-specific unless you pay extra for a "multi-region" model. I bought the Sharpe series on region 2 and my laptop plays them.

You can switch the region code on your PC two or three times AFAIK. So you could do the following: Buy the DVD, switch the PC to region 2 and then burn the DVD. Because after you've burned it, it's region-code free and you can play it anywhere.

LOL! There are lots of real Russians around, so I imagine many of us have talked to some. ;) But all joking aside, I do agree that the accent sounds very well done when I compare it to my colleagues from Russia. The movie still creeps me out, though, and I don't really go for creepy. :( But then I also don't really go for naked Viggo (although I heartily approve of the wax job) all the time either. I'm a freak.

Mine doesn't. My sister gave me a DVD that was bought in Poland, and when I try to play it, my laptop says there is no disc in the drive.:(

Yes. Provided I get my vacation approved - which I haven't asked for yet, because I don't know exactly when I'll be taking it. I'm thinking the week before 15th - but should I take the whole week, or just, say, Wednesday through Friday and then the Monday after?... What are your plans?

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I've just found out that a friend of mine has two players, set up for region 1 & 2, respectively; so I can always watch stuff at her place, or ask her to burn it for me. Which would kinda solve the problem.:)

True, but what I really meant was that I actually speak the language (or used to, anyway), and had the opportunity to talk to Russians in Russian. In Russia, even.;P

Neither do I, most of the time. But apparently my love for Viggo knows no limits (let it suffice to say that I own the DVD of Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, which is possibly the creepiest/most disgusting flick I have ever seen :P).

Welcome to the club, then. I read your post about not wanting to see that scene where his balls are supposedly 'flying all over the place'. And let me tell you that I have very ambivalent feelings on the issue... LOL. On one hand, I'm kinda curious - but on the other, not sure if I really want to see it either. Well... I guess I'm going to find out how far my Viggo attraction really goes, in strictly physical terms.:P

Right now, assuming the date of the 15th is right (I'm still nervous about that!) I'd plan to fly in on Thursday the 13th and leave on Monday the 17th.
