what's really great is that i no longer hate doing it
That's the thing with all the healthy habits. You hate it at first, but if you persist nonetheless, pretty soon it becomes the most obvious and natural thing to do. At least that's how it was for me.
I hardly drank any water for the first 35 years of my life, lol. It was always either black tea with insane amounts of sugar, fruit juice or some other flavored/sugary concoction (we didn't have canned sodas in Poland when I was a kid - which was a good thing, I suppose :P). I wasn't aware that black tea, which has a lot of caffeine (almost as much as coffee), actually dehydrates you - so when I felt thirsty, I just made another cup. Same goes for any highly sweetened beverage - it just makes you more thirsty, so you drink more, therefore ingesting more sugar... etc.etc.etc. While water quenches thirst and cleans you up.
i can't believe the changes in my health already
Oh yes. I used to have those frequent, nasty headaches that felt like something was clogging my brain. They seemed to come randomly and for no specific reason, but now I am pretty sure one of the main factors was dehydration (and general lack of proper nutrition). Needless to say, I don't have them any more - unless I don't eat or drink anything for over five hours. Then I might start feeling that weird pressure in my temples again. Except before, I used to feel it even when I WAS eating or drinking - because even though I was ingesting stuff, my body was reacting negatively to the lack of actual nutrients, which weren't a big part of my diet, lol. At least that's the most plausible explanation I can come up with.
Anyway... ditching soda is one of the best things you can do for yourself, so keep going. Pretty soon you will cringe at the taste of it, the way I do now.:P
