Oct. 12th, 2004 09:59 pmOMG. I cannot believe it. My laptop almost had a stroke... but it's been resurrected! To cut a long story short, it was totally choked up with spyware, as well as infected with a few different viruses, including a particularly malicious Trojan horse that simply wouldn't be removed. Of course I had no idea what was really going on, apart from seeing the obvious symptoms of my poor compy's exquisite agony. It took up to 15 minutes to open any webpage, I kept getting stupid error messages, totally unrelated to whatever I happened to be doing at the moment, I couldn't even send email... and apparently I made things worse by installing a program that was supposed to block pop-ups (the amount of which exceeded a thousand a day!...). Fortunately, my roommate's boyfriend has reached quite a high level of efficiency in rescuing troubled PCs, and he was willing to help me out. Almost free of charge - especially considering that he spent half the night and most of next day trying to get the viruses out first, and then - when that failed - reformatting and installing everything all over again (if I wanted that done professionally, I would probably pay more than the poor thingy was worth in the first place). So now my little baby is just like new. It works so well it's almost scary.;) And no pop-ups!!! Hooray!!!!! I just can't help wondering if such exquisite bliss can possibly last...
So here I am, back in LJ-land. Another piece of happy news is that my roommate finally bought a VCR. And that means I can get some old Viggo-movies that never came out on DVD. Like The Passion of Darkly Noon. I already have it coming in the mail. I also got Albino Alligator, which I remembered seeing at the local Blockbuster's - on VHS only. However, when I went there to rent it, it was no longer available for rent. It was on clearance, for five bucks. So I bought it. And, to my utter surprise, it's not half as bad as the weird title might suggest.;)) It's suspensful (if there is such a word) and a little disturbing, which I appreciate ("disturbing" is a much higher rating than "boring", for example - to me at least...). As for Viggo... he is funny. Not like himself at all. As well as very much in the background. But then I had seen the screencaps, so I didn't expect any better...
After that - last Saturday - I went on a big shopping spree that somehow ended with getting two more movies I didn't really plan on buying: Witness and Young Guns II. I knew Viggo was hardly there in either of them, but still I wanted to check him out... and somehow I couldn't find them at any rental. So when I unexpectedly saw them at Borders, where I really went to get some CDs... I simply couldn't resist. Anyway... Young Guns II is a total waste of time, and I won't waste any more by saying anything else about it. Witness, however, is a good movie. A very good one, in fact. I vaguely remember having seen it already, long ago, and being quite impressed by it. I like Peter Weir. He makes me think - and that's what movies should do, in my humble opinion (apart from entertaining or eliciting some kind of emotional response). And, of course, 25-year-old Viggo is too good to miss - even if he's very much in the background. He may not be saying much, but he does flash that gorgeous smile.....
