sad confessions of a fandom addict ;)
May. 25th, 2005 11:39 pmI just had a very educational experience. In a way. My internet connection went dead for almost 48 hours. It made me realize a couple things. For example:
1) I had gotten so used to spending time online that I hardly knew what to do with myself (even though there were more than a few useful things I could have done - things I had been neglecting lately because I spend too much time online),
2) I felt like crying at the thought that there might be too much new fic posted on my flist in the meantime to ever catch up with,
3) I couldn't possibly go away somewhere without internet access for more than 2-3 days, because the sheer amount of new messages in my inbox upon return would totally overwhelm me.
And I can actually access LJ at work, so it wasn't half as bad as it could have been... but Yahoo!Mail is blocked by our company's server, and I agonized over the accumulating posts from the new, very active group I had recently joined. Yes, I joined another Yahoo!Group. As though Legolas_Aragorn_Slash wasn't enough.;) This one is called Thalassa_Manipulations, and people post all kinds of fanart there - mainly LOTR-related manips or wallpapers, but also some other stuff, like links to interesting websites, resources etc. And some of the pics I've seen there so far are beyond gorgeous (Aragorn/Legolas and Viggo/Orlando are among the most popular themes, which is more than fine with me :D). It's totally worth all the spam that necessarily goes with being on a mailing list... but talk about time consuming etc.
Yeah. By the way, it's past my bedtime again (so what's new? lol). Let me just say that I am overwhelmed by all the accumulated goodness, and very busy catching up - and though I do check my flist at work, I'm not cheeky enough as yet to actually post comments from there (not even sure if that'd be technically possible, btw). And that's the only reason why it might seem like I haven't reacted to new chapters of my currently favorite Vigorli sagas - like The King of New Orleans, Freedom or Chalk Butterfly (to mention only the most anxiously awaited ones). I live in these stories, and it's SO damn frustrating that a human being has to sleep sometimes, instead of just browsing flist 24 hours a day... (and the fact that I actually said that is probably the most disturbing thing of all... :/)
And my abused eyes are REALLY hurting now. And tomorrow I will probably wake up with a headache. So what's new, anyway? *sighs heavily*
