I rented another great movie last Friday - Just a Question of Love. It's French, and tells the story of a young, closeted gay student, scared to death of coming out to his homophobic parents, despite the love and support of his new, slightly older - and very openly gay - boyfriend. ( Read more... )
The movie is from Picture This! Home Video - just like Without Conscience, which I mentioned in a previous post, and Amour de Femme, a touching lesbian romance story that I had rented some weeks ago and that I am currently expecting to arrive soon in the mail from Amazon.:) (You could call that particular tale stereotypical too, but both actresses playing the lesbian couple were so utterly beautiful that I couldn't resist having this in my private collection...:P) The DVD includes also a bunch of trailers for other movies from Picture This!, and I was so drawn in by most of them that I visited their website. Which turns out to be a blessing for my heart and a catastrophe for my wallet.;) They sell exactly the kind of movies I love the most: "alternative lifestyle" and intricate social drama from all over the world. So I plunged in with my jaw hanging open, and before I knew it, ended up ordering five DVDs in one go (yep; it's waaay too easy when you have a credit/debit card, and maybe it was a bad idea to get one after all... but it's blissfully to late :D). And they're all expensive, I might add - between $20 and $30. Which says a lot about me, I guess - since I probably wouldn't spend so much at once, say, on clothes (unless I really needed a special outfit for a special occasion). But if I have good reason to believe I might love a movie, and it's not available for rent anywhere that I know of, I am ready to pay 30 bucks to see it. Hmmm. I didn't realize I was such an avid cinematic fan. Or maybe I just didn't realize it's an expensive hobby... lol. Anyway... I felt sort of bad about it - but then my roommate came home from an extensive shopping trip, and showed me her new fancy coat that cost her $700. No, I kid you not. Seven hundred. The coat is pretty, and she looks very aristocratic in it (like a true Leo apparently must, at least from time to time...;D) - but I'd rather have 30 DVDs/books/CDs etc. for the same price. So I am definitely feeling better now... LOL.
