Jul. 20th, 2006 08:45 pmIt feels so strange to actually have these few days off... knowing that they will be over waaay too soon, and then it's work, work, work... until next summer. I just don't seem to know what to do with this precious time... or, more precisely, I have about a hundred ideas, but find myself unable to prioritize.;) It's actually more frustrating than a regular two-day weekend, which is always over in a blink, but that's just the way it is... while an exceptional five-day weekend should somehow be so much longer, and yet doesn't feel that way at all.:P I guess I just want to fit too much into it... *sigh*
Anyway... I have finally finished organizing and backing up the files on my hard drive. I had no idea that saving all my precious stuff would take SEVEN CD's... LOL. The Viggo interview clips were the worst - I had to split them into various folders and subfolders in order to save them, since they obviously wouldn't fit on one disk... and being as anal as I am, I had to open every single one and see what it was before I could place it accordingly (just imagine the time and energy devoted to such an all-consuming project, LOL). The next thing I'd planned was burning an MP3 with my own The Best of the Strawbs compilation... but apparently it's not going to happen. I downloaded some 'free trial' version of RealPlayer - that nearly crashed my laptop - to do this, and it seems to be working fine... except the CD, after being supposedly 'finalized' and ejected, is still being recognized - both by my laptop and by my CD/MP3 player - as blank. I have tried the burning three times - to the same effect. So I guess I'm just going to cancel the 'free trial' before it starts eating my money, and forget it.:/
Another thing I don't seem capable of figuring out is how to share a music file through LJ. Everyone else is doing it all the time... but all I can see, while in posting mode, is the option to insert an image. Maybe I need to acquaint myself better with the 'help' section... lol. Anyway, it's probably a wonder I haven't caused some major computer disaster without having the slightest idea how or why it happened.:D (or, to be honest, I did - back when I wasn't using anti-virus protection and got totally screwed over, to the point of reformatting - I'm just kind of surprised it only happened to me once... lol) Right now, I have a good anti-virus program saving my ass - but in spite of that, my poor old laptop is acting silly sometimes, and I am utterly clueless on how to fix it. For example, I am unable to delete temporary internet files (of which there must be a hellish amount, since I click on various links hundreds of times a day). Whenever I try that, I get the message that "the program is not responding". It will not clear history, or cookies, or anything like that. So, needless to say, at times it gets incredibly slow. Like, taking over a minute to open an email message or an attachment... I also know I have some viruses 'in quarantine', but am clueless how to remove them completely. And there's probably a hundred other little things that might potentially cause a problem, and that I'm blissfully unaware of... for now.:/
And no, that's not what this post was supposed to be about. I had other, more important things to say... but instead got lost in my own self-absorbed little world, again. How pathetic. And now my eyes hurt from gawking at the screen, and I haven't exercised for at least three days (I have my period, which is a good excuse to skip physical effort for a day or two... but not three or more), and I STILL haven't watched half of the rented movies, and... yeah. That's it. I need to shut up. Someone please smack me upside the head and make me focus on what really matters. I tend to get eaten alive by stupid details and completely lose sight of 'the big picture'... whatever it is. How can I possibly know, since I've lost sight of it?... Oh well. I guess it's time to take a break. My sincere apologies to anyone who just wasted ten precious minutes of their time reading this crap... *sigh*
