floatingleaf: (mystery man)
So, today the boss sent an email to everyone on the team, inquiring about our availability for overtime during the next three months - meaning September, October & November. WTF?... Of course, if they let some people go this fall, then those who stay will most likely have to do overtime - but since we haven't been told who's staying yet, it feels weird to have that question addressed to everyone. Unless there's been some change of plans we're completely unaware of. One thing I've heard is that once the new employees from India finish their training here next week, they will go back home to train others, and then come back here for more training. Which probably means that the lay-offs will not happen all at once, but gradually. So we might just as well work overtime now and still be gone by the end of the year. At least some of us, obviously.

Another thing a coworker suggested to me, though, is that the company would save more money by keeping some lower level employees (like me), instead of just the 'veterans' with higher pay. And there are people on our team who've been there forever and who must be making about twice as much as I am. So maybe that's why I was trained to do stuff someone else had done so far - because I'm cheaper?...

I just wish I knew, one way or the other. But judging by the latest developments, they might just as well keep at least some of us in the dark until the busy fall season is over, so we are well motivated to do our best in the hopes of not getting kicked out. Smart, innit?...:/
