surreysmum rocks my world. She wrote this lovely A/L drabble for my birthday... totally charming and sweet little thing. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out at

aragornlegolas. It's all the more precious because it evokes a hot summer night, which right now seems to me like something out of an alternate universe indeed (four months of Chicago winter will do that to ya - and I suppose Canada isn't any better ;P).

I was just checking out some Tolkien-inspired music on www.mp3sugar.com (which is a Russian site, though it has stuff from all over the planet), and there is this Russian power metal band called Arda. I know "power metal" sounds scary, but it's basically the same type of music I used to associate with the term "art rock" or "progressive rock" - so no screaming chaos by any stretch. Just a little more ambitious/intelligent brand of rock, basically, with maybe a hint of metal here and there (and I know there are about a hundred different kinds of metal too, with a lot of confusing terminology attached, but that is a topic for a whole another post). And Russian music always has some lyricism to it, regardless of the genre (imagine a metal band with a vocalist sounding like a performer of traditional Gypsy romances... lol). Anyway... I downloaded a few tracks, and there's this lovely little instrumental piece called "The New Dream". Just acoustic guitar, basically, and some bird chirping in the background. Very peacefully Middle-Earth, if you know what I mean.:) And it just totally conjures up an image of the Elf & Ranger chilling out on a lush summer meadow.:D So when I read Surreysmum's drabble, it immediately put me in mind of this sweet little tune. I love such coincidences when they happen...
