I had a feeling that could be part of it. I'm sorry. :( I had a screw up in early adulthood, where my mom mixed up my brother's and my social security numbers. I had to get a new one, and as a result, I had a totally clear credit report despite having held a credit card for 2 years already under the same name and address. Eventually they caught up, though, and my old info went on the new report.
Can you notify the credit cards of your new name? Women who marry and change their names have to do this all the time, for example. Ask them in writing to report the account history under your new name and soon enough it will reflect your past good credit behavior under your new name.
Of course, if you were looking for an excuse to get out of the whole thing, this works. ;)
