Still recovering from the sunburn. Monday at work was agony - I wore a long-sleeved shirt to avoid any further sun exposure, but the fabric was chafing against the damaged skin, which actually got redder overnight, instead of dulling down.:/ Besides, it is always freezing inside the office - but I couldn't stand to wear a jacket over my shirt (too much chafing), so I was doubly uncomfortable. It felt like a fever - being hot and cold all the same time... lol. When I finally got home (with a grocery/pharmacy stop on the way) and tore my clothes off with a sob of relief, I gave myself the following treatment:
1) cold buttermilk, straight from the fridge;
2) Witch Hazel (a natural soothing astringent for skin irritations, as recommended by
alliwantisanelf);
3) Burt's Bees After Sun Soother with Aloe & Linden Flower;
4) a cold compress.
As soon as the compress warmed up to room temperature, I would toss it back into the freezer and repeat the entire procedure from the beginning. And still, I hurt. So I went to bed early to at least get some more sleep than the previous night (which had been spent dozing fitfully while switching an ice-pack from one shoulder to the other and back again). Tuesday was marginally better, but the shirt still chafed.:/ In addition to that, I got my period last night - which actually sort of helped, since I took today off and was able to take better care of myself in between lengthy naps.;) And best of all, I didn't have to get dressed.:P
As of right now, my nose & forehead are already peeling. They still look red, but don't hurt anymore. What still hurts are the very tops of my shoulders, and the angry red spot to the right side of my neck (the sun was hitting it directly for most of the time, I suppose). There is some serious inflammation there - the skin feels spongy and swollen, almost like a rash. The left shoulder also looks a little rough and yellowish, as though it might blister. I'll keep an eye on things for a few more days - I'm hoping I don't need to see a doctor for this, but if it doesn't subside over the weekend...
So. Here ends my catalogue of random, self-inflicted, easily preventable injuries. *headdesk* I am horribly behind on replies to comments, but I just wasn't feeling up to much so far this week. Hopefully this will change. There is a long weekend coming up, and I don't really want to spend much time outside, despite the gorgeous weather, until my skin returns to normal - so I suppose I'll be here, catching up. For now, excuse me while I lay on another thick layer of that soothing cream and slink off to bed. *groans*
