floatingleaf: (winter bridge)

More exciting winter-related news: yesterday's commute to work took about two hours, due to the first bus being late and then crawling at a snail's pace, and then the second bus also being ridiculously late. I had to stay in the office till 6 p.m. (on a Friday!) just to make up my regular hour count for the week.:/ Forget overtime. As it turns out, it wasn't available anyway, despite what the boss had said earlier. Not that I'm complaining about not having to get up at 5:30 this morning - but my point is, overtime at my workplace is never a guaranteed, reliable thing. It might seem at the beginning of the week that we have enough work for everyone to be able to put in a few extra hours - but then, as the week progresses, it might turn out that the work went faster than expected and we should be done with most of it by Friday afternoon. This has happened many times. In most cases, I was actually relieved at not having to work extra - but now that I could totally use some extra money, I have mixed feelings about it. Oh well. It's beyond my control, anyway. *shrug*

In other news, I went to check on the car and found that the snowpile around the wheels had significantly diminished since Wednesday. I was also a soft, wet, melty pile, because the weather has warmed up considerably. So I kicked at it with my boots for a few minutes, and then I got in the car and was actually able to move it. This made me so happy that I decided to drive to the grocery store (instead of walking, like I had planned). What I hadn't considered was how ridiculously difficult it becomes to find a parking spot on my street when there are huge random piles of snow lying around. So now I am parked about two blocks away from my building.:/ Also, I think one of my front tires has lost some air. I could be just paranoid about it, but I am not willing to take the risk of getting a flat on my way to work - so I'll continue to take the bus, thank you very much. Even though the commute sucks big time.:/

Btw, the neighborhood sidewalks are still in a pretty miserable state. I walked to the nearby pharmacy this morning, and then to the little Hispanic market right down the street (that was before I checked on the car and realized I could drive) - and came back home with my boots and pant legs soaked through. I thought those boots were water-resistant.:/

Anyway... I feel all worn out and lethargic again, despite having slept well over 8 hours last night. I think I'll turn in... *yawn*

Bad weather is exhausting. I'm glad you're surviving but what a nightmare. How long is it supposed to last?

*hugs*

Heaven knows. There is another vicious cold wave coming down this week - and after that, I've no idea. Could easily last till March - and then there'll be massive flooding as all this snow begins to melt... *shudder*
