OK. Time for some more Viggo movie reviews. I recently ordered three DVDs from antisoshal.com: Gimlet, Ruby Cairo and The Crew. So I had a three-evening Viggo Bad Guy session.;) Quite gratifying, to say the least...
Gimlet is a surprisingly good movie. Kind of artistic, actually (a snicker at the previous post;)). Featuring Viggo the Irresistible Grim Stalker.;) A complete creepy psychopath, totally unaware of his own perversity. And God, is he good at that. He is so good it's positively scary. Makes your skin crawl... and yet you can't help but pity him. A very Scorpionic part, that one (like at least half of his roles, btw, including Aragorn - but that's a topic for another lenghty ramble...). The film is also a very good study of the psyche of a woman - always hungry for love, even to the point of self-destruction...
Ruby Cairo is the only one of Viggo movies that I remember seeing in its entirety a few years back, before I knew who he was. And it totally beats me why I didn't fall for him then. He is drop-dead gorgeous. A total charmer... and a heartless bastard as well.;P But that somehow doesn't spoil the pleasure. Though you sort of admire Andie McDowell for finding the strength to get over him.;) Especially considering that the replacement is Liam Neeson. But I digress again...
The Crew is supposedly one of the worst movies Viggo ever made. And well, yeah, most of it is rather daft... but it also has some surprisingly touching moments. Particularly involving my favorite character in the flick - a lovely transgendered boy (or should I say "transgendered girl" - since he actually wants to be a woman?...). Lean and graceful with big eyes and wild brown curls... yeah. He looks almost like a more feminine version of Orlando. And I almost fell in love with him... and somehow couldn't shake the thought that Viggo's character should really be cruising him, instead of calling him a faggot (too much slash, I know). Not to mention killing him at the end.:((( Because yeah... Viggo plays this completely hopeless, phony, shallow, homophobic, materialistic prick. With a macho haircut and a mustache. He still looks sexy, obviously, because the poor guy couldn't help it if he tried... but still, it somehow hurt to see him like this (and I really could tear him apart for shooting that boy). And since he plays damn well, as usual, I just had to assure myself repeatedly: this isn't Viggo, he isn't really like that, he's not, he's not. My lovely Viggo is anything but shallow. I mean, he can be a dangerous freak, he can rip people's hearts out (like in Gimlet) or even eat them (like in TCM 3), but he's NOT shallow. He wouldn't call anyone a faggot (unless he started with himself ;P). But the very fact that I was so annoyed only proves how convincing his acting can be, I guess...
On a different note, I got really pissed at work today. They have blocked access from our company's server to the main LiveJournal page!!! It wasn't enough for them to filter all commercial websites and Yahoo mail. They had to take away LJ too. Callous bastards.;) But I didn't give in to despair. I outsmarted them. I did a Yahoo search for a random user name from my flist... and it worked! No one is taking my daily slash away from me.;) I mean, it's not like I am neglecting my work because of it. All I'm doing is filling up the down time. What difference does it make to them whether I'm reading online fiction or a tattered paperback??? I am an intelligent person and I refuse to just stare mindlessly into a blank computer screen. I scored as Verbal/Linguistic, and I need words to furnish my beautiful headspace. A human being does not live on bread alone...
On a still different note, I just realized I did something stupid. I posted this little A/L ficlet here a few days ago, and I was kinda wondering why it went completely unnoticed... until it hit me. I had kept it as a private post for about 3 days while I was working on it, then changed the security level to public when I was done. I also changed the date to the current one, but apparently this didn't stop it from appearing on people's flists among the entries from February 3rd, instead of 6th. So that's probably why no one even saw it (and my hopes of some much-desired feedback went unfulfilled:(). I don't know what to do about that now, but should anyone be interested, I just posted it at the
aragornlegolas community. Not that I'm pimping or anything.;) Just curious whether people would actually want to read my stuff. Being a Verbal/Linguistic does make you wonder about that, you know... :D
