I got an email yesterday from someone asking for permission to translate one of my fics and some drabbles into Russian and post them on a Russian LOTR slash site. Yay! I am getting famous. *snort* But seriously, that was a huge boost to my ego. I have barely written anything, and already I am being translated. *blushes* Btw, several months ago I had a similar request from someone in China (sic!), and supposedly a few of my drabbles are already up on a Chinese site (not that I would be able to check for myself, LOL - I don't recall being given the link anyway).

So let me just say, with a friendly wave towards [livejournal.com profile] miladyhawke - we are here, we are q... umm, being noticed and appreciated (not that I deserve it half as much as you do, BUT), and we are spreading the A/L love all around the world. :D Wow. That really makes me happy. Howgh.

And yes, I have actually started writing a longer A/L story, that might even have more than 2 or 3 chapters (gasp! ;P) - if I ever finish it, that is. Not sure why I'm mentioning this at all - knowing me and the flabbergasting speed with which I go about everything I do, it will probably take months before I even start posting. But I am literally dying to do it, so hopefully my determination will win over the obvious lack of confidence in the concept itself (no vicious plot twists in this brain of mine, you can be sure :P). It seems I am made for the short form - anything longer than a few pages defeats me.:( But I am going to fight this time.;) If I lose, at least I will know for sure I should stick to drabbles. Sound like a plan? :D

OK. Enough for now. I am on company time, and surprisingly enough, there's work to do. *gasp* ;P

Thanks!:)

If memory serves me well, the Chinese person who contacted me introduced herself as Searchana - or something like that. Must look for that email - I still have it somewhere in the bottomless depths of my Yahoo mailbox.;)

Don't see how trying to write a longer fic would make me a better person - especially if I've been trying to do that for most of my life and never yet succeeded... LOL. Yep, I dreamt of writing a "novel" since I was a kid - always scribbling something in my secret little notebooks, then giving up after 3-5 pages and starting all over again. And so on, and so forth. The only longer thing I actually managed was a 17-chapter POEM (or a story in verse, if you like) of an extremely romantic nature.;) Pity it's in Polish, or I would share it just for kicks.;) It's unbelievably cheesy.:D And of course all the romance in it is het, since back then I didn't know any better (not exactly an overload of information on alternative lifestyles in Eastern Europe in the eighties :/).

Anyway... sorry for the ramble, and wish me luck indeed.;) I have THREE different fics started right now, btw - and not the vaguest idea when I might actually finish any of them (if ever). That's the way to go, no? *smirks*

Dude, that's not a poem, that's the fucking Odyssey! :-P All I can say is that I'm impressed!

If we're talking about different archivists/translators, there must be a pretty big Chinese slash fanbase - I saw one of their archives and was quite floored. And the really neat thing is that I used the Yahoo translate page function (comes out like gibberish, but you can still glean a bit of what is going on), and over there they actually have intellectual discussions about the meaning of fics! I was watching them debate one of mine and laughing in shock the whole time :-P Very impressive culture.

To explain what I meant about fic length, I'm just in awe of people who can really tell a story and flesh it out properly. It seems like my fics keep getting shorter and shorter for whatever reason, so folks who can really develop a story have all my admiration :)

Good luck with your fic - I've got three myself right now and have for ages, lol. Do have one at the beta's though, so at least that's something.

Take it easy, chickie!

Yes, the Asians have a way of going very deep into things.;) Not like us superficial Westerners... LOL

So am I. Just not sure if I'm actually one of those people.;) Time will tell, I guess. Right now I'm sort of stuck on all my three fics, with no clue whatsoever which one I want to finish first.:P
