I was tagged a few days ago by [livejournal.com profile] taelyn_sass to do this meme. I think it might be a nice break from the tedium of my recent posts... so here it goes.:)

The rules:

1. People who have been tagged must write the answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new, original question.

2. Tag 6 people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

1. Make a list of 5 things that you can see without getting up:

- the laptop (duh!);
- the little personal fan I use to keep it from overheating;
- the desk lamp;
- the cable modem;
- framed printout of a Viggorli manip (yes, I am THAT sentimental ;P)

2. How do you style your hair?

However it lets me. I try to aim for wild, bouncy curls, but the success of said attempt usually depends on the shampoo. I hate hair sprays, gels and other styling products, so I strive for a natural look. Unfortunately, bad hair days are a common occurence of late.:/

3. What was the last book you read?

I think it was the Book of Shadows by James Reese. I usually take my sweet time with novels - especially longish novels - because I like to savor them for as long as possible. So I finished that one a while ago. Now I am reading Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey, which is absolutely brilliant. It's the first part of a trilogy, and my sister has all the volumes, so I am very much looking forward to devouring the entire series. Over a period of several months, probably.;)

4. What's your occupation?

My official job title is "Quality Specialist". Which, of course, can mean anything. In my case, it means entering information into a database, keeping said database in order, preparing annual print versions of various sections of said database for release, and occasionally communicating with clients (through email mostly, which suits me perfectly well, thank you very much). As well as countless other tedious, anal-retentive tasks that pop up as I go along (*cough* correcting other people's typos/grammar mistakes *cough*). In short, it is a perfect job for me.:P

5. What do you hear right now?

Shouldn't it be "what CAN you hear"?...:D Anyway, just the fan cooling the laptop. Which reminds me that I could put on some music. *opens iTunes library* There we go: I can hear Marillion.:)

6. Who was the last person you hugged?

Must have been either one of my parents. I don't really hug anyone else these days. I don't SEE anyone else, now that I think of it. Except my coworkers, obviously - and we don't hug. *feels slightly startled by the realization*

7. What is/was for dinner?

Sushi. Actually, that was lunch. A really late lunch, but nonetheless. Dinner will most likely be the turkey chili leftovers languishing in the fridge. I want to clean out the skillet before I cook again tomorrow.

8. What did you do today?

Not much. Slept in a bit. Read a bit. Took a bath. It's wet and gray outside, so I don't feel the slightest motivation to go out. It's a perfect day to spend online, in fact (as if I ever needed any excuse for that... lol).

9. Dog person or cat person?

Definitely cat. Dogs never held much of an appeal for me. In fact, I was scared of them as a kid, and still get nervous around the hyper, noisy ones.

10. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?

Something that other people can pronounce/spell correctly, LOL.

11. What was the last thing that you bought?

Groceries yesterday. I don't really buy anything else these days.:/

12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

That question is too overwhelming right now. There are too many places I would love to see and never will... *sigh*

13. Are you happy?

That depends on how you define happy. Yes, I am happy that I am not starving, that my body is more or less in working order, that I have a job and a roof over my head, that I can find solace in simple everyday pleasures like a good book or a heartwarming chat with a friend. But is it Happiness with a capital H? Probably not. I'm not sure I ever knew what that was - except for a few fleeting moments. But then again, is it ever more than a few fleeting moments?... See, I can't even give a simple answer to a simple question. That's just how I am, it seems. *shrug*

14. What are you doing this weekend?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Trying to unwind a bit before the craziness of the workweek begins again...

15. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?

I tried the electric organ (synthesizer) and the acoustic guitar back in my teens, but without much success. I think I'll stick to listening to other people's much more harmonious efforts.;)

16. What are you doing tomorrow?

Should probably take the car for an oil change, and ask them to check my tires while they're at it. Should also do some laundry (I usually do it at my parents' house, but I haven't been there since Christmas, and I felt compelled to familiarize myself with a public laundromat as a result - which was fine, except I only washed some essentials like underwear, pantyhose and socks; now I might have to do pants, sweaters and the like). And cook, of course (I could cook today, but there's still plenty of food in the fridge, and I'm not working tomorrow, so it makes more sense to finish some of the leftovers first).

17. What are you looking forward to the most?

Right now, finally being able to afford that new computer I've been wanting for months. *sigh* I still don't know when that might happen. I only just paid the huge credit card bill for half of the latest car repairs. Took an entire paycheck. The next paycheck will cover the rent. So, barring the paychecks that disappear almost as soon as they come in, there is about $300 in my bank account right now. Perhaps the mid-March paycheck will leave more than a trace of its existence on the ledger, so to speak. We shall see. But I'm not getting that computer until I can do it without breaking the bank - so it might take a few more months. And, of course, in the meantime something else might happen. Like another car disaster, for example. *knocks on wood*

All right. That's it. That's my (needlessly rambly, of course) version of the meme. I just removed two questions that I didn't like, btw, because I'm partial to the number 17. Call me weird if you like.:P

Tagging: [livejournal.com profile] dissonant_dream, [livejournal.com profile] gairid, [livejournal.com profile] illuins_lair, [livejournal.com profile] samtyr, [livejournal.com profile] stormatdusk and [livejournal.com profile] surreysmum. I know some of the abovementioned might not even see this post, let alone feel tempted to do the meme; but really, coming up with SIX people even remotely likely to do so was a challenge. So there. No pressure, as usual.;)

In totally unrelated news, I am revamping the entire tag system on this journal. I was basically using just one tag for all my non-fandom-related posts - and that tag was "personal". Which didn't really make any sense, because it IS a personal journal, and pretty much all my posts are personal - except for fandom, fanfic, memes, links to interesting articles, movie reviews and the like. So I had this one huge tag that comprised about 70% of my posts. Plain stupid. Might just as well not tag those entries at all. So I am reading through all the old posts and creating a bunch of new, more specific tags as I go along. Not that anyone cares... but it satisfies my self-obsessed/anal-retentive streak. *evil cackle* I am also finding that my English has improved significantly since 2003. The early entries sound awkward to me now - and the same goes for my early fic. Still, it's an amusing exercise. I almost wish I had kept my hand-written journals from back when I was a teen. There were many... and I destroyed them all eventually, because I didn't trust my mother not to read them if she ever got her hands on them. I wish I could have written in English back then... *sigh*

Anyway... I'll shut up now. This took far longer than I thought it would (as usual). I have a bunch of comments to respond to - not to mention emails and a "real life" friend whom I should probably call to wish her a happy birthday. If she is still speaking to me after the however many weeks/months of deafening mutual silence, that is. *shifty eyes*

Yeah, I do much better at the online life that at the real one. But that is no news. I don't know what I was doing before they invented the internet... LOL. *headshake*

I consider myself tagged! :D *hugs*

I hear you on the tag thing, I've gotten a bit carried away, but I need it to be right. ;)

It always makes me think of this line from Dogma, never let it be said that your anal-retentive attention to detail never yielded results because it's true!
