I haven't made a movie post in a while, so let me just mention a lovely, quirky film I watched this weekend: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I hadn't expected to like it quite as much; I mostly picked it for the cast, not for the genre, which I don't normally go for. As it turns out, I'm not quite sure why I don't.;) It was quite delighful; smart and hilarious and really touching in unexpected ways. Now I have this sudden urge to see all Terry Gilliam films (I haven't seen any, except for 12 Monkeys - which I did like, though I wasn't aware he had directed it until I looked him up on Wikipedia right now). As well as all Heath Ledger films. I mean, the guy is just... beyond words. *sigh* It's such a bloody shame that he died so young.:( In fact, The Imaginarium was his final role, and he died about halfway through filming - so instead of giving up on the project, they had three other actors (Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell) step in and complete the part, which actually adds another dimension to the script. It's a fantasy film, about the power of the imagination - so it makes perfect sense for the characters' faces to change depending on who's "imagining" them, as it were. But I won't give any spoilers.;) It's just totally incredible how the movie still turned out so great despite the worst that could possibly happen - the death of a major cast member. And then I watched the DVD extras, and there was a brief interview with Heath done right at the beginning of filming, where he said he didn't really care about "success" in terms of a film's popularity - because to him, all that mattered was the time spent between the words "action!" and "cut!", the experience of acting itself... the telling of a story. All the rest was superfluous. And that really gripped me by the gut, because it totally sounded like something Viggo might have said. Or any other performing artist with a true calling, for that matter. There are plenty of good actors around, but only some are in it for the passion, and not the money or the fame. Heath definitely was one of those. He had incredible talent and depth and charm, and he would have totally gotten even more awesome with age - the way Viggo has done. In other words, he is totally the type of actor I usually tend to crush on.;) Right down to his looks and that rogueish smile. Just... great timing on my part to register that, isn't it? :/ Though, on the other hand, if I'd started crushing on him BEFORE he died, I would have been heartbroken. So my being "slow on the uptake" isn't so bad in this case, I suppose. *shrug*

Yeah. (No worries, Viggy. You're still No.1.:P) I had other stuff to talk about, but it's bedtime. So, if were to watch everything with Heath Ledger in it, where should I start? Well, everything except Brokeback Mountain, since I have probably memorized that one by now, scene by scene. *blushes* Anyway... I'd better go now. Good night.;)

I loved that one as well. It was a great movie all around - well worth watching multiple times.
