my fave 'queer' movies :) - just because

Because I have been quiet for most of the week, and because I love making lists of my favorite stuff, I decided to post my Top Ten (or, in fact, Top Thirteen) Queer-Themed Movies.:) And by queer-themed I mean anything where a major character (or more) is either gay or transgendered in any possible degree or way.;) I seem to have a VERY soft spot for this kind of movies (ha! I wonder why?... *snort*), and here are some that left a long-lasting impression:
- Aimee and Jaguar by Max Farberbock (based on a true story of love between two women - one German, the other one Jewish - during World War II; a complete masterpiece);
- All About My Mother by Pedro Almodovar;
- Bad Education by Pedro Almodovar;
- Breakfast on Pluto by Neil Jordan;
- The Crying Game by Neil Jordan;
- Brokeback Mountain by Ang Lee;
- Fire by Deepa Mehta (possibly the first movie ever about a lesbian relationship in India);
- His Secret Life (aka Le Fate Ignoranti) by Ferzan Ozpetek;
- If These Walls Could Talk 2 (and I mean especially the first episode, starring Vanessa Redgrave; I would seriously recommend it - as an eye-opener - to anyone who thinks they have moral grounds for opposing gay marriage);
- My Summer of Love by Pawel Pawlikowski (not a gay movie in itself, but there is definite romantic involvement between two young girls);
- Panna Nikt (Miss Nobody) by Andrzej Wajda (not quite a gay movie, but almost; a very intense emotional triangle between teenage girls from different social backgrounds);
- Sister My Sister by Nancy Meckler (a very dark psychological drama with incest and murder involved);
- You I Love by Olga Stolpovskaya (a lovely, hilarious and very touching Russian film about love that comes unbidden).
I seriously contemplated adding Boys Don't Cry, which definitely left a long-lasting impression - but, whereas all the abovementioned films I have (or gladly would have) seen more than once, this one shook me up so badly that I couldn't possibly make myself watch it again (despite my almost-crush on Hilary Swank... LOL). So I guess I can hardly put it on a favorites' list, can I?
Okay. I've had my say for tonight. Anyone is welcome to comment, ask me anything about any of these movies or recommend some similar ones that I might not have seen or heard about. I am hereby heading for bed.;)
