this and that

So, a short update: they still haven't called me back about the job I was interviewed for last Thursday, and I have a sinking feeling that they won't. Oh well. It did seem too good to be true, in a way. *shrug*
I have seen another great movie: A River Made to Drown In. I added it to my Blockbuster Online list because I wanted to see Richard Chamberlain play a gay part... but didn't actually expect it to be so good. Very depressing, but also cathartic in that Greek tragedy kind of way...
I also got another Gogol Bordello album: Voi-La Intruder (subtitle: Songs of Immigration in Voi-La Minor :P). Pure delight, let me tell ya. If Multi Kontra Culti was sweet insanity, then there are no words for this. Eugene Hutz is certifiably mad, and I love him for it (Shane MacGowan seems very tame and civilized in comparison... lol). The lyrics are disturbingly hilarious, the music rich and flowing (very folky, with plenty of acoustic guitar and accordion, which is just fine with me), and the vocals sound like a bunch of mental institution inmates on crack.;P It makes me HAPPY.:D And of course, I can't resist a few quotes (again, disregard the rules of English grammar for the moment):
So darling let's discuss our tactics:
I will be mad and you will be possessed
That is the only way to fight this world
Those are the only times when we are at our best
(from Sacred Darling)
I got a passport officer
This time you ain't getting what you want
This time you're doing only what you must
This time you're doing only what you must
Where is your friend now officer
That sharp good-looking lieutenant
Who got vacation cause he shot my friend
Where is your friend now officer
(from Passport; and I may be a totally legal immigrant, but that doesn't mean I don't feel the blues here... lol)
And finally, my fave:
And so I married a Chinese lesbian
She was 45 years old
She needed bad to stay in the country
And I needed bad her dough
(...)
Inspector call us and inspector watch us
I'd run but I still haven't got my dough
I live with her in a half bedroom apartment
With six other lesbooooos
(from Greencard Husband; again, one of my closest friends is a lesbian AND a "greencard wife"... so you can imagine how that made me roll around on the floor in helpless bliss... LOLOL)
But the most gorgeous track on the album is Godlike, which sounds almost like a classic Gypsy romance (or a brilliant parody of it, more likely :P). The lyrics (not provided in the booklet, but jotted down by me from memory) go more or less like this:
I am a liar, you are a cheater
I am a thief, you are a traitor
I'm downright stupid, you're paranoid
Oh never mind, let's just keep going
(...)
When I hurt myself, I just try hurting you
You respond with tears, but they are never true etc.etc.
Still, from purely instrumental point of view, it's just a gorgeously romantic ballad. Simply priceless.:P
OK. My sincere apologies for inadvertently boring anyone to death.;P The only other thing I simply have to mention are the extremely delightful and satisfying online chats I've been having with
slesia of late. It seems I'm successfully keeping her from writing her PhD.;P But certainly heated discussions of A/L porn and related topics are much more inspiring than scientific research, aren't they? :]
Oh, and btw: I have two little snippets now of my weird A/L/Twins thread. No porn as yet (as soon as I bragged about it in my LJ, the muses lost their wild enthusiasm for cooperation... I should have known that, shouldn't I?...:/), but some funny dialogue for a start. Or at least I hope it's funny. Anyway... it will be posted soon.:)
