Happy St.Patrick's Day to all the Paddies out there! :) I do have a soft spot for all things Irish. It's a long story, and I'll save it for another time, but just like I know I must have been Greek in a past life, I suspect I might have been Irish too.:D

I straightened up the place a bit today after all the unpacking/organizing madness, and tried out my brand-new vaccum cleaner (very small, and probably the cheapest model I could find; but I figure it's going to work just fine for a tiny apartment like this). Then I put some nice-smelling tealight candles into my brand-new stylish candleholder with lovely amber-tinted shades, and some atmospheric Celtic music into the player. So I'm feeling very ambient right now.:P

The radiators are going full blast, like they want to fry me alive; I have windows open and the humidifier on, and still I'm hot. *fans self* But I'm not going to complain, because I'm one of those cold-blooded people who'd much, much rather be a bit too warm than too chilly. *knocks on wood*

I called customer service today, just to make sure my account was deleted; and it appears that it wasn't. However, I was told that since the account is tied to the AT&T DSL service, I must contact AT&T in order to cancel the service and have them reset my password, so that I can retrieve my email. And here's where the real trouble begins. AT&T, before they can do anything for me, wants some three-digit customer code that's supposed to appear on my bill. And, of course, I have no idea what that code is, because I wasn't the one dealing with the bills. My roommate was. She did the whole bookkeeping thing - I just handed her a check once a month. And we were basically using the same Yahoo!DSL account, though we had separate email addresses; mine was the "master account", hers a "sub-account" (which sounds very creepily ironic for some reason, but that's another story). And as far as I know, she's still using hers, so I'm not exactly sure what would be the implications of me "cancelling the service". We probably should have discussed that before I moved out... but I was too preoccupied with other stuff, and besides, we didn't exactly part on very friendly terms. We had been exceedingly polite to each other for the last few days, but I guess we both knew how very superficial it was on both sides. When I was getting ready to carry the final transport of my things out to the car, she didn't offer any help; she didn't even deign to move some of my bags & boxes closer to the door, so that I wouldn't have to take off my shoes every time I came in for the next load. She only grumbled, because I had forgotten to remove some soy sauce packets from the fridge (she hates oriental food). So I decided it wasn't worth my breath to call out to her when I was done and say a proper good-bye. I just dropped the keys on the kitchen table and left. And believe me, I'm really not thrilled at the idea of calling her now to ask about some stupid customer code. Especially that it might not help anyway. It was probably sort of illegal to have two separate DSL accounts while only paying for one, in the first place. So maybe it's best not to inform AT&T about it. What if that causes trouble with her account as well, and gives her a reason to get mad at me all over again? *sigh*

Believe me, I am incredibly happy NOT to have a roommate anymore. *sends a prayer of thanks to whatever deity might be listening* Call me antisocial if you will - but life is just sooo much simpler now. And I'd rather it stayed that way, thank you very much. It's worth all the money I can afford. *looks around her cosy little hermit cave and sighs in profound contentment* I just wish I knew what to do with the stupid AT&T situation. If there is a chance I can still retrieve my Yahoo mail, I would really like to try it; but on the other hand... I have a bad feeling about it. *bites nails*

Thanks for the advice. I do believe, however, that it was her name on the bills. She was paying SBC/AT&T for the phone line long before we signed up for DSL; and then the internet account was incorporated into the same bill.

Besides, she really isn't the type of person who wouldn't pay her bills. She makes good money, and even if I'm not too fond of her right now, the one thing I can't accuse her of is being deliberately dishonest. She has no qualms about telling anyone to their face just what she thinks about them; but she wouldn't try to cause someone trouble behind their back. I am pretty sure of that.

Anyway, I just couldn't force myself to call her... but I did send her an email.:)
