life and fiction
Jan. 20th, 2010 11:57 pmSo here's the latest scoop on my dad: gastrointestinal endoscopy turned out good, meaning there's nothing wrong with his stomach. On Saturday he's gonna get tested for stones in his gall bladder, but in the meantime, both the laryngologist and the neurologist have suggested that the blackouts/dizzy spells he is suffering from could be a heart-related problem. Arythmia, perhaps. So he's supposed to see a cardiologist too. He is also scheduled for an EEG of the brain, just in case. And has a referral for physical therapy that might help with his balance/inner ear issues (his left ear has gotten much worse than the right when it comes to hearing; there's also humming, buzzing, sound distortion etc., which could possibly be related to the dizziness/vertigo). So... a lot more appointments over the next few weeks. Btw, he has insanely high blood pressure - which I wasn't even aware of, because I remember him always saying how his blood pressure was exceptionally low when he was younger. And so was mine. It's pretty average now, though. Does that mean it's gonna get insanely high too when I'm older?... See, I take after my dad in so many things it's not even funny - both mental and physical characteristics - so I won't be surprised at all if I start to suffer from the exact same ailments as I age. Too early to get paranoid about it now, perhaps, but you know... *sigh*
In happier news, I spent a really nice afternoon/evening on Monday with a good friend of mine whom I hadn't seen for months. She's moving again, finally renting out a small apartment on her own instead of having to share with a roommate - which she is, understandably, quite ecstatic about (I can totally sympathize, since I made the very same wonderful change to my lifestyle three years ago :). She's planning a big housewarming party sometime in February (well, not THAT big - about ten people, perhaps; but from my hermit/anti-social perspective, that's big enough, LOL). Anyway... we both felt like some light-hearted entertainment for a change, so we went to see Nine. I don't usually go for musicals, but I will make an exception if the cast is good enough - and I do like to ogle gorgeous women on occasion.;P I especially wanted to see Penelope Cruz in this one - she is wicked hot and hilarious all at the same time, which not that many actors/actresses can actually pull off, imo. Marion Cotillard was also stunning... and I am very fond of Daniel Day-Lewis, so seeing him didn't hurt either. And for all it's superficial glamour, it's not actually a bad movie.:) We also had dinner at a lovely little Japanese restaurant. I go out so rarely these days, it made me feel really special.:P
Also, strangely enough, I am writing fic. Mainly because I crave distraction from real life with a vengeance, and A/L porn is the only thing that really manages to make me forget all my troubles - if only for an hour or so at a time. I've been trying to finish this 'new & improved' version of how man and elf really got started for the past week or two - but my writing process is excruciatingly slow, so give me another week or two... or three. Perhaps. However, they are at a very crucial moment in the proceedings by now, so I'm quite confident this will get finished. I don't want to leave them hanging like that, so to speak.;P
