Dec. 2nd, 2006 12:20 amSo... winter has officially started. And with a bang, no less. There was a HUGE snowstorm last night, complete with a hellishly howling wind that makes your bones shiver even in a well-heated room. And when I got up this morning, everything was milky white. Including my car, which I then had to painstakingly dig out from under the lovely snow-mound in order to drive to work (they had warned us that the office might be closed today because of bad weather, but when I called in at 6:30 a.m. to confirm the happy news, they said they were open!... Bastards.;P). Then came the even more frustrating task of trying to actually get out of the parking lot (no, I don't have a shovel, and there was no one around to help, so I just cursed and kicked the snow around with my boots... lol). But the highlight of the morning was yet to come. About halfway to work, on a busy street, I lost control of the car, which skidded on the wet, messy pavement, swerved violenty to the left and almost collided with heavy traffic from the other direction. Almost - because, luckily for me and everyone else, I got stuck in the piled up snow between the lanes. It happened so fast I barely had time to squeal. I just blinked in amazement, heaved a huge sigh of relief... and then burst out crying (like a typical female behind the wheel, right?). I must have looked a sight when those four teenage boys got out of one of the approaching cars and started pushing me back onto the road. I barely had enough wits about me to switch to reverse, lol. But finally I collected myself and drove about 15 mph all the way to the office, cursing lavishly under my breath and solemnly swearing to call in sick next time it snows all night. No matter that I don't actually have any sick days available this year. I'd rather reduce my meager paycheck even further, but stay alive and in one piece, thank you very much. And yes, there were at least two huge trucks in front of me when I made my little unexpected foray into the wrong lane. It is quite possible they wouldn't have been able to stop on time. *shudders* Oh, the joys of winter season... I just can't help wondering how many more interesting adventures like this I'm going to have before it's over...
/rant. I don't have much energy left for other topics. I need at least 8 hours of sleep, preferably in one go. And even more preferably right about now. *signs off*
