thank God for Sundays :)
Apr. 25th, 2010 10:10 pmSo... here's the latest RL scoop: work kinda sucks and the weather is lousy as hell, but neither seems to have much effect upon my mood. I am in a good, happy, creative mental place that sort of amazes me with its endless supply of comfort. I seem to be learning a new meaning of the word "inspired". Speaking of which... I wrote a new ficlet today. It was an easy, joyful and extremely pleasant experience of channeling my favorite elf, so to speak.;) I will post it soonish.:)
In other news, the building management is trying to freeze me to death. They don't care how cold it is outside - when the heating season is officially over, it is over, come what may. Last night, I found myself shivering despite a thick fleece pajama top worn OVER my sweater, and my feet were numb inside woolen socks plus big fluffy slippers. I just couldn't take it anymore. So I went out to a nearby pharmacy/convenience store and bought an electric space heater. A little portable one, for about 25 bucks. I will probably only need it for a week or so... but what the hell. It is saving my life at the moment. It's right here by my side, blowing hot air straight at my permanently freezing feet. Heaven.:P
Also, I should probably take note of the fact that after being creative in the fanfic realm today, I proceeded to be creative in the kitchen. I sort of invented a dish that could be called the Eastern-Europe-meets-Asia stir-fry/stew.:) It's basically buckwheat and mushrooms and lots of veggies, with Sichuan sauce. Now, buckwheat is a very Polish thing that most Americans never tasted, but it can still be found here in the ethnic section of most grocery stores. It beats rice or pasta by a long shot (being not only infinitely tastier, but much healthier too), and it goes perfectly well with mushrooms, or with any kind of tomato-based sauce (Sichuan sauce consists chiefly of chicken broth, tomato paste and balsamic vinegar). I also happened to be craving Brussels sprouts for some reason, so I threw those in - as well as some onion, celery, zucchini and scallions (mostly green stuff, to match the color scheme, LOL). And it turned out delicious (some Thai sweet chili sauce - the one I had bought earlier for the Mexican bean salad - didn't hurt either). So, multicultural influences in the kitchen for the win.:D
I might also mention that I finally saw Fight Club. I know, I know - that movie is 10 years old and every self-respecting fan of flicks with a brain has probably seen it by now, at least once. But I somehow never got to it - possibly due to the fact that I wasn't quite convinced I wanted to see a movie about a bunch of guys who punch each other in the face for fun.;) It's not about that at all, obviously, but yeah... you have to see it to find that out. It was recommended to me by at least two people, who both said I was gonna love it - and yet, I was sceptical. So I hereby offer my humble apologies.;) I did love it - for a number of reasons I don't have the time to get into right now. On a very superficial note, though... damn, but Brad Pitt was HOT back in the day. And so was Helena Bonham-Carter. An explosive duo if I ever saw one. I am Jack's bisexual lustful thoughts right now. Just saying.;P
And before I end this extremely random post... I have a squirrel family living in an old coffee maker on my window sill, okay? No, I am not insane - or maybe I am, LOL, but this is the truth. The coffee maker is there to block the little space between the air conditioner and the window frame (the plastic screen previously serving that very purpose was eaten by said squirrels long ago). The squirrels have made their nest INSIDE the coffee maker. This is the second time a squirrel (whether the same or different one, I have no idea) has had her babies in there. As I have learned, they come in threes. Last year the little ones were very quiet - each time I dared to check on them (when momma squirrel wasn't around), they seemed asleep. They grew very fast, though - from little pink thumb-sized creatures eerily reminiscent of human embryos, all the way to miniature carbon copies of an adult squirrel within a few weeks' time. And then they disappeared. This year, though, one of the babies seems unusually adventurous. It tends to repeatedly crawl out of the coffee maker and plop right down on the floor next to the window - clearly upsetting its mother, who then has to come inside the apartment as well and get it back (the little thing can't crawl back up to the window on its own). It is, in fact, sitting here right now, curled up in the little corner behind my desk. I would pick it up and put it back where it came from, but it is clearly terrified of me - so I think I'd better wait for its mama to come get it. She will probably show up once I leave the room.:)
So ends my fascinating RL update. A/L to follow within the week, hopefully.:D

In a coffee maker =DDDD Now that´s possibly the most adorable sign of springtime I´ve heard this far!
(btw -we too have a squirrel-mommy running around on the facade of the house but I´ve no idea where she´s hiding the little mini!squirrels)
I´m gonna go check this up more closely! *tries remembering what Squirrel-medicine means as totem in the tarots*
*scurries off still babbling about squirrely-related stuff and visualized elfselfs*

Date: 2010-04-29 04:22 am (UTC)Actually, the squirrels pissed me off a bit the other day. They came visiting while I was at work, and basically trashed the place. The entire window sill and radiator cover was filthy, some of my decorative trinkets ended up on the floor, and there were squirrel droppings (at least that's what it looked like!... I'm hardly an expert, lol) all over the room, including my desk (!!!). So I stomped my foot and decided that the party is over.:P I put a heavy ceramic jewellery box on top of the coffee maker, and then BOTH my 2-pound hand weights on top of THAT - so that they can no longer lift the lid and get inside. I don't care what they do on THEIR side of the window, but MY side requires some major cleaning now, and I'm not letting this happen again.:/

You have arcane knowledge of the tarots?...;) I am very curious about such things, you know.:P

Date: 2010-05-05 08:08 am (UTC)Now thinking about it, I was never a huge fan of Brad Pitt, except for maybe a glimpse of flesh or nekkidbutt here and there during the years.. He never got to me in "that way" y´know? He seems so out of personality - which of course is just a silly opinion from someone who has never met the poor guy..LOL =DDD but Brad is somehow telling me "Hi I´m a guy who has a few gorgeous abs and a pretty mouth and aesthetical cheekbones and sort of want to get away with that and my manly mane.. and I´m cool too - look! I can make super!action and dramas and still not having to act at all because of mah lookz.."
*cough*
Meaning that I was always a Depp!girl before switching onto Orliness.. I seem to have an incurable thing for that certain kind of darkeyed man. Interesting, that. My lovers have also had much in common with that certain set of estethics. Strangely - the steady!partners I´ve had have not.
But how the fuck have I ended up on this topic???? Because I was going to write something about squirrels and now I seem to have forgotten what it was. *shakes head*
Omg. I´m hilariously easy to distract.. I even distract myself all the time, see?? *headdesk*
In other words I think I forgot parts of my brain somewhere. If you find it let me know.
*scurries off once again to try the squirrel!door*

Date: 2010-05-07 03:10 am (UTC)It is confounding, in a way. It is unsettling and absurd, and maybe a little cliched (you know, that whole concept of introducing a split-personality case as two separate characters and all). But I loved its demented humor, and the vicious satire on American capitalism really struck a cord with me. Maybe I wouldn't have been able to appreciate that so much if I'd seen it when I still lived in Poland - maybe I wouldn't have understood what it was really all about. Now though, I felt like OMG that's IT, it's really that absurd and disgusting, and all we can do is laugh like maniacs at this sham of a "civilization" that has destroyed our souls. It just totally fit in with all the stuff I've been reading lately about various sick aspects of the American (and, by extension, global) society.:) I felt a strange sense of dark satisfaction at the sight of all those explosions at the end...;P

LOL!!! That's pretty much the opinion I had of Brad when he was younger. He has matured professionally over the years, though. I think he was great in Crash, for example (with Cate Blanchett, who was also amazing). But I never considered myself a great fan, either. I liked him in Interview with the Vampire, because there was a little "gender-bending" involved with those languid looks and flowing hair...:P Not in Troy, though. There he looked (as my sister brilliantly pointed out) "like an elephant with the face of a toddler".;D
I was always a Depp!girl before switching onto Orliness..
Now see, Johnny Depp is super-cool, but somehow "he never got to me in that way".;) He's probably a better actor and a more interesting person than Brad, but when it comes to pure looks, I wouldn't pick him. Strange, because I generally consider dark-haired/dark-eyed people very much my type. But I should also probably add that most people I've been in love with were not my type at all.:D
I´m hilariously easy to distract.. I even distract myself all the time, see??
I've noticed.;P
I think I forgot parts of my brain somewhere. If you find it let me know.
If I do find it, I just might want to keep it.:D
