quick check-in, just to say I'm alive :)

Okay. Methinks an update is in order.:) I am seriously struggling to keep up with everything this week, what with the new job and getting up at the unholy hour of 6:30 a.m., not to mention ZERO private email access during work hours... which leaves me with over 200 messages too deal with every evening at home. *sigh* In addition to that, I am STILL trying to be a good girl and exercise every day... so I hardly get a moment to do anything else, really (and no, I'm not in bed by 11 p.m., even though I should be).
The job is fine; frankly speaking, a delight for a clinically anal person like me.;P My basic duties consist of signing paperwork, stamping it, sorting through it and filing it away, as well as pulling appropriate documents from files, assembling them according to instructions, verifying in the computer system and stuffing into envelopes to be mailed out. It may seem tedious, but actually requires full attention to get everything right (any slightest mess-up puts the entire department in trouble, LOL). So there's no danger of falling asleep. In fact, I am told that the summer is the slowest season for the company, and that once everything picks up in September we will all be running around like crazy. Which is good in a way, because it makes the days go faster (I've sooo had my share of slow, monotonous, deadly boring days at work lately... LOL). The only thing that bugs me right now is zero computer privacy - practically everyone on the team can see my screen at all times... Not that it seems like there'll be any time to spare for internet browsing anyway...
And now for something completely different - probably of even less interest to anyone on my flist... but hell, it's my journal, so yeah.
It's official. LACRIMOSA has become the absolute NUMBER ONE on my music list. I ordered two more albums (the most recent ones), and just seeing the covers and the gorgeous artwork inside made me float on air... I don't even have to listen to them to know they are perfect, LOL. In fact, I still haven't had the time to play the latest one... and the one before it is only sinking in and transforming my brain as I write.;) But based on what I already know, I can safely say that the band has a very distinctive style that is everything I need in music. It's wild, weird, romantic, powerful, moody, angsty, deep, extremely evocative and downright breathtaking. It's a powerful blend of black metal, progressive rock and classical music, including elements that could well serve as a dramatic movie score. The very range of emotions contained in the rich sound tapestry floors me... and when I look at the lyrics (which are mostly in German, so I need a peek at the English translations), it gets even worse. It's a trip to the outer space, I tell you (not that anyone's reading by now, I suppose...;). And most of the unbelievable gorgeousness was actually born in the head of one man. Tilo Wolff. Who must be an extremely eccentric individual - judging by his looks as much as by his creation. There are quite a few photographs of him included in the artwork... and on some of them it's almost impossible to determine his gender. I say 'his', because the ranting, screaming, wailing and growling voice from the records is definitely male; and he also has wide shoulders, flat chest and a very prominent nose - but the rest of his facial features is so distinctly feminine, I am seriously wondering whether he might be a transsexual. He seems like a perfect reclusive hermaphrodite to me.;) His 'partner in crime', Anne Nurmi (who complements his disturbing, 'angsty' voice with her calm, angelic one, and also wrote some of the songs), has an exotic quality about her as well; but she's just a classic goth lady, with no gender ambiguity whatsoever, and that makes her less intriguing, somehow.;) Anyway... that's it for now. I really have to go to bed... *reduces volume of Tilo's raspy lamentations just a tiny bit and scurries off*

Date: 2006-07-29 10:53 pm (UTC)Well... I hope so.;)
and you need to double the speed :)
Or triple - if I'm to believe what they tell me... LOL.
As for the band... I wish I could share some of the most poignant tracks, but I'm dumb and have no clue how to upload music files to LJ.:( And I would at least post some of the lovely cover art... but my scanner doesn't work.:/ So the only thing I can do is quote the lyrics - but they don't really give a good idea of what the music's like all by themselves. You have to hear it to know what I'm gushing about... *sigh*

Date: 2006-07-29 11:12 pm (UTC)Ha! Good to know I'm not the only one...;) Though, in fact, I don't want to point my finger at who's responsible for a large part of those hundreds of emails.:P A certain bunch of very chatty ladies, only two of whom I have had the plaeasure to meet in person (NOT pointing my finger again ;).
And I so wish I could work from home!... Though how much actual work I would do if no one could peek over my shoulder is another matter altogether...:D
As for the income... it's far from impressive. In fact, I have moved into a lower bracket, compared to my previous job (the one where I got laid off). Still, it's more than social security would pay me, so I guess I shouldn't complain... *snort*

Date: 2006-07-29 09:22 pm (UTC)Told you you'd enjoy the work + you'd soon be very good at it!!
I love keeping busy too: days pass faster + you get a lovely feeling of fulfilment at the end of the day.
I've been working in no-pc-privacy conditions as well + I know it's not nice. If sometimes I stayed later to finish sth + then had a look at sth on the web, the next day I'd get some not-too-funny jokes about the fact that I stayed late to steal time on the Internet, because s/o always got to the office earlier than me + happened to go online as well... buggers... so I just stopped doing it + decided that my private life was out of those walls, emails included.
Never mind, Hon, we're with you in spirit even when u work :P
