Wow. My Christmas shopping is done already. Well... most of it, anyway. The Polish bookstore where I always get gifts for my mom (she always wants books, and she doesn't read in English) had a major sale today, and I bought her three novels at a very nice discount. And that was really the only place I needed to visit in person. I ordered all my other gifts online. Moreover - smart girl that I am - I had them shipped directly to my parents' house. So that all I will need to do on Christmas Eve is change the packaging.;) Actually, my sister's gift, which is an art book from her Amazon wishlist, will come nicely wrapped already. So I really made it easy for myself this year.:P Incidentally, I also made it easy for everyone else, since I told them exactly what I want.:D My dad is getting me a new printer/scanner/copier, since my old one isn't working anymore (I've had it since 2003). Mom is getting me a new electric kettle (again, the old one is starting to act wonky, and I am ALWAYS making tea, so an operational kettle is a must). And my sister has a choice between two things: the new Lacrimosa album, which just came out in October (perfect timing, non?...), or Claudia's Story - a graphic novel based on Interview with the Vampire, which came out a little earlier this year. I am secretly hoping she will get me both.;) Actually, my fingers were really itching to order that Lacrimosa CD as soon as I found out about it - I've seen some gushing reviews on Amazon - but since last year I bought my sister the new album of a Polish rock band we both love, I thought it fitting that this time she should return the gift of music, so to speak. Now I just need to curb my excitement for a few more weeks...

Btw, on my way back from the bookstore today I stopped by a discount clothing store called - very adequately - Payhalf, and left it with two new skirts plus a nice cardigan, at the stunning price of twenty bucks each. The skirts are very plain, black and brown, respectively; but they're exactly what I wanted, since I like wearing patterned sweaters with either black or brown/green accents, so I need plain single-color skirts/pants to go with them. The main thing is, they both widen down from the waistline, which is the perfect cut for me, since it effectively masks the protruding belly. My "trick" is that I wear the waistline a little higher than it technically should be, and never tuck shirts or sweaters in; with the right cut and length of both clothing items, an optical illusion of a narrow waist can be created - at least while I'm standing. Sitting down is another matter... but let's not dwell on depressing topics, hmmm?... The cardigan is also black, with a generous, frilly finish all around, and has a very somber look to it; a little old-ladyish, I suppose, but let's face it: at this point in my life I look far LESS ridiculous in old-ladyish fashions than I do in junior fashions, and sometimes it's really hard to find anything "in between". Anyway... the cardigan also has a bit of a Victorian feel to it, which is what attracted me in the first place; now I suppose I should get myself a huge black veiled hat, and I will be a proper Victorian spinster, fit to attend a classy funeral.;D Like, you know, a fake funeral of someone who is actually UNDEAD. Because that's what middle-aged ladies in frilly cardigans do all the time, non?...

Yes, my weird headspace is doing great, thanks for asking.:)

Oh, and I am off on Monday, because I still have some PTO time left to use by the end of the year. So there is hope I will actually go and exchange those unfortunate sweaters I bought last weekend. You know, the one that was too tight in the shoulders (of all the places a sweater can be too tight on me, believe it or not), and the other one, which wasn't, but which started to come apart at the seam the first time I wore it (which happened to be the day I went to that training seminar downtown). Not only that, but one of the sleeves started to quite literally unravel. By the end of the day, there was a long string of loose yarn hanging out of the sleeve of my jacket.:/ Well... I hope the store will take it back, since I still have the receipt.

And thus ends my fascinating news report for today.;) Now I need me some sweet & spicy vampire romance before bedtime...

It would go well with a steampunk-ish outfit, I believe...;)
