Ehhh... my brain is just not cooperating this weekend. I thought I had so much to say, and I was going to make a long post last night... and then it just didn't happen.:/ Could be because there was TOO MUCH going on through my mind. I am in a classic premenstrual state of frenetic mental overdrive and high-strung emotions, and I have those endless paralell monologues bursting out of my skull that just go *POOF* when I try to write them down.:/ If that makes sense. Or rather, I know it doesn't, but that's just how it is. *sigh*
So, first I wanted to write about how suddenly the weather changed and how absolutely lovely it was to walk outside without a jacket. Then I wanted to write about the movie I watched on Friday night, because it was epic, and Heath Ledger was in it, and he just absolutely blew my mind. But I just ended up going through his profile on IMDB, reading all the interview quotes, and getting all gushy and emotional and wanting to cry because he's dead. So then I just wanted to post some of the quotes, and talk about how awesome the guy was, and how he would have made an absolutely PERFECT Lestat if he'd had the chance. Because OMG I can't even. But then I got distracted, because my favorite mp3 download site had a promotion that ended this weekend, and I had been meaning to look for some new music... and before I knew it, I had acquired a brand new obsession. Voltaire. As in, Voltaire the musician.

Full name Aurelio Voltaire Hernandez. Born in Cuba. Currently living in the States. Doing his own unique brand of goth, marked by twisted dark humor and a wild mix of musical influences. On the earlier albums, he sounds like a cross between Marc Almond and Nick Cave. Then his brooding tunes transform into merciless satire and vicious parody - while retaining their absolute instrumental perfection (rich acoustic guitars, violins, accordions - in short, pretty much my own definition of aural bliss). Actually, the way he combines heady romanticism with demented hilarity reminds me strongly of Eugene Hutz from Gogol Bordello. They have the same rebellious spirit. But Voltaire also has a deep, rich, melodious voice that goes perfectly well with the most heartbreaking ballads. His songs cover the full range of human emotions in a seemingly effortless way. And the lyrics... oh my God. I don't even know where to start. He tells some really creepy old-fashioned tales of the macabre... and then puts you in stitches with some clever commentary on the modern world. He did a brilliant parody of Rammstein, which sent me into hysterics. He has song titles like Zombie Prostitute, The Straight Razor Cabaret or Reggae Mortis. *chortle* Not to mention Coming Out for Christmas (one of my personal favorites). I don't think he's gay, but he's definitely a very strong supporter.:P And he absolutely deplores religious hypocrisy. He blasts it all to hell with his scathing sarcasm. In short, he's too awesome for words. I ADORE him. I just made a 3-hour playlist, which has been loaded onto my iPod - and I haven't even heard his latest album, which came out this year and isn't available on the cheap download sites yet. I just might order that one on CD. I think he's worth it.:D
So don't be surprised if I spam you with his videos and/or lyrics in the coming weeks.:) For starters, here's one with some nice promo shots and album covers. It gives you a pretty good idea what his schtick is all about...;)

Yes, The Sexy Data Tango is hilarious... even though, not being a Star Trek fan, I'm definitely not catching all the references. But I can tell the guy is extremely clever with language!...;D
