this and that
Jun. 1st, 2007 05:50 pmSo, it seems that the big LJ suspension scare is over. I was nervous there for a moment, even though my most questionable interest is probably "elladan/elrohir" - provided, of course, that the anti-freak police knows who they are and realizes they are actually brothers.:P Very fictional brothers, and certainly very mature (hundreds of years old... LOL), but still. I'm sure some people might possibly be offended at the idea of them having a sexual relationship. But then, some people seem offended by the very existence of gays, lesbians or transgendered individuals - which, of course, does not mean that said individuals should pretend not to exist. It is not possible to please everyone, and LJ is definitely not the place to start trying, IMHO.
That said, I sincerely hope I don't get suspended because I posted a few little ficlets implying twincest between Tolkien's characters. In fact, will probably post another one in the near future (if the muses continue to cooperate).:P
I have contemplated going "friends only" - but there are reasons I don't want to do that, so I'd rather wait until it becomes absolutely necessary. It's kind of sad that some people have to do that, IMO. Even if I totally understand why. I just used to think that LJ was this wonderfully open community, where you met new friends just because you were "out there" on the web... and well. Uhm. Yeah. It sort of isn't anymore. *sigh*
1) Summer is officially here. It is HOT. I am immeasurably thankful to whoever invented air-conditioning.;) (which I now have in my new apartment, yay!!!)
2) We had our annual company picnic at work today. Free food, music, drawing lots to win silly prizes etc. And then they let us go home around 1 p.m., while still paying for full eight hours. I could sooo get used to that.:P
3) On the other hand, the pay itself really isn't much, and I don't seem to be actually saving anything. As per my latest bank statement, my earnings exceeded my expenses by the smashing amount of 17 bucks.:( Granted, I've been buying a lot of stuff lately to furnish my new place, but still... I may not be the most thrifty person around, but I'm not extravagant either. I don't usually spend money on something I don't need. And if my bank account balance doesn't improve significantly over the next few months, then obviously things like a new car totally don't fit into my budget.:/ And there's no telling how long the old car might last. *bites lip*
4) Speaking of the car, I got a brand new rear bumper recently, paid in full by the guy who hit me a couple weeks ago. I admit I was very lucky, because he turned out to be a totally honest person, who gave me his REAL phone number and covered all expenses from his own pocket, just like he said he would, even though he had no insurance. So it does pay to have faith in people sometimes. *nods*
5) They closed a bridge in the neighborhood due to road construction recently, and thanks to that I have discovered a new route to work - minimally longer, but surprisingly faster, because it runs through the more suburban, less congested area. Why have I not thought to take it before??? It would have saved me a lot of rush hour traffic frustration, I am sure. *shakes head*
6) I have persisted so far with my exercising/walking routine. I only skipped a day when I had my period. And I think I might have lost some weight already. Not much, really, but it's a good start. Still a wimp, though; my muscles ache with fatigue, and I am very tempted to just give up sometimes. I know now, though, that the only way to make them STOP aching now is to keep going, so that they (the muscles) become accustomed to actually being used. So please, whoever has read this far, keep your fingers crossed for me to keep going.:)
7) I think it's time for me to actually start planning a vacation, since I have ten days available which must be used by the end of the year. So I am considering going to Toronto in September (for TIFF, obviously, in case anyone here had any doubts ;P). It's pretty close, geographically, so it can't be that expensive - even if I take the plane (which I definitely would, since I don't have the courage to drive that far by myself in my old four-wheeled piece of junk... LOL). I am still nervous about it (I haven't really traveled by myself since I moved to the States five years ago), for a number of reasons - but I will never get rid of the uneasiness if I don't try, right?... So I am thinking about it, and would gladly hear from anyone else who might be going (like
namarie120 & Co., for example ;P). Because if no one I know is going, then I don't think I will either. But from what I've heard, there has always been a group of fandom people in attendance there over the last few years, so...
