I couldn't resist. Even though I knew seeing the top of this list would make me a little sad, for reasons obvious to those who know what I'm talking about.;) Here it is, in plain view - how few people have been a constant presence in this journal, and how vital it seems that they all stay in my life, regardless of how far apart they may be standing from each other. When you look at how few comments I get, in comparison to most other LJ-ers, you may be able to understand why I don't defriend people on a whim. Because those who actually care to be here are way too precious to not at least make an effort to step into their shoes and put their glasses on before I try to judge their actions. Which is an effort I have never ever regretted making, by the way. *nods*

Just a few remarks regarding the accuracy of this tally: niennas_dreams and dissonant_dream are actually one and the same person, so she should be higher on the list.:) ptychu and "Anonymous" are also the same person (the anonymous comments date from before I talked her into opening an LJ account ;). And the same goes for akashaelfwitch and aelfwitchfic, obviously. So the number of people who left comments here is actually lower than 77 - even though I'm rather pleased that it came up with such a perfect lucky score.;) *is superstitious*

Will definitely shut up now and go back to the regularly scheduled porn.:P

Well, I have my reasons for defriending people
and slesia unfriended me recently (though I dont know why) Im okay with it, she is always welcomed back :)

sometimes its because we want to better manage our flist
or because of some intense argument that came about...I usually dont unfriend, unless Im very very upset about something. I let them unfriend me first ;)

My flist has people from slash to nonslash to yaoi only to personal real life friends, so it really varies.

Im glad that you are a part of it, though

I just want to say that I'm so glad I'm back here, so glad we're still in touch. I do think that quality and not quantity is what's important. My sister is on facebook and she's all about getting as many friends on there as possible, and updating me with how many she now has. But I'd rather have a handful of wonderful friends like you than a few hundred who I barely know. I don't actually know what I'm talking about but yes. I wanted you to know that I appreciate you. *hugs*

Facebook, huh? I hate Facebook. I opened an account to get back in touch with slesia, because she had completely disappeared from LJ - but I don't really use it (especially now that she seems to be back on LJ, lol). I hate that you need to put your real name on it; I don't want real life acquaintances (like coworkers) to find me there. I like the relative anonymity of LJ, which seems to give me much more privacy, even though I have an open (public) journal. Maybe it's an illusion, but I feel safer here, somehow...

As for having hundreds of friends... well, to me that's just plain ridiculous. A friend is someone you actually talk to, keep in touch with, know something about etc., right?... Well, you can't possibly keep up with hundreds of people on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis. You just can't. I understand that someone who is a popular fanfic writer would need to have a huge flist, because people want to follow their stories - but how many of these people are more than just readers?... My flist is relatively small, and still there are a few on it who are just that (probably very disappointed right now, since I don't seem to be writing much fanfic anymore). As well as a few I don't really know anything about, because they don't post much at all, or entirely stopped posting long ago. There are maybe 10-15 people I can actually call friends. And that's perfectly fine with me. I just want to keep getting to know them better, instead of distracting myself by adding new ones just to increase the number. Which would be entirely pointless, imo. *shrug*

I wish I'd come back to LJ sooner. But I'm so glad I'm back now.

Yeah, I'm avoiding facebook. Partly because like you say, there's a real life issue there. I have my online life and I don't want people from work or old people from school finding me and it getting all awkward. Which is would. Here, with our LJs, it's like our own little corner of the online world. I like it here. It's warm and cosy and it's ours.

Exactly. That actually became part of my problem with niennas_dreams. I had too many people on my flist and I didn't know them and it wasn't nice anymore. I want to be involved with my friends, and I want my online home to be mine, to not feel like lots of strangers are being given a window into my personal life. With my real online friends, I don't care what fandom they're following, I don't care if they're writing fic, I just want to be able to talk to them and know how they're doing, and like you say, get to know them better.
