So, last night they started revamping our entire computer system at work - you know, getting us off The Nielsen Company's servers and hooking us up to the Kantar Media Group, who is our new owner (and has been since January - it just took that long for our IT department to get ready for this massive project to be accomplished). It's supposed to be finished by Monday morning, but we were told that today there would be no access to the network. So we were sort of encouraged to take a vacation day - unless someone wanted to come into the office and do some spring cleaning around their desk or something (which a lot of people chose to do, actually - especially those who have been with the company for many years and accumulated plenty of stuff around their workstations). So I decided I'd rather stay home and have myself a long weekend.:) And while I was at it, I took Monday off as well, since I'm supposed to get my period and would probably call in sick anyway. Of course there is no 100% guarantee it will 'strike' on Monday - but it did last month, and it's been amazingly regular of late, so there is a good chance. It's actually kind of started already - but these days it takes anywhere between 24 to 48 hours before the really bad part happens (the one where I just need to take a couple Advils, lay down and try to sleep until it's time to take the next couple Advils... etc.). Anyway... I have a long weekend, and I started it really well by cleaning the apartment and having a plumber fix my clogging drains (yes, both the kitchen sink AND the bathtub - except this time I didn't wait for some major flooding like last year... it was more of a preventive measure). I even cooked - so I can pretty much chill out tomorrow, except for the weekly grocery shopping trip. Also, the weather was really nice today, and it's supposed to be that way tomorrow too. So perhaps a long walk is in order. I miss being outside in the sun, without either suffocating or freezing. It's not a frequent occurence if you live in Chicago.:P

And now, before I heat up my heating pad and lay back in my lovely papasan chair to watch a movie - another installment of my sentimental music journey.:) My favorite video by Sinead O'Connor. No, it's not the one most people associate with her - that one's been played to death and sort of lost its appeal to me at some point. This one was never very popular, as far as I know, and I was kind of surprised to even find it on YouTube. When I first saw it, I was in my early twenties and very much in love with Sinead, and I spent most of that night crying, absolutely transfixed by the beauty and heartbreak of it (if you listen to the song, you might understand why). I know it sounds kind of pathetic to admit to it now... but it still made me tear up, after all these years. Not many performers have the courage to open their hearts to their audience as much as she did - especially in that one song. Combined with her ethereal beauty, it packs a serious emotional punch to the gut. At least for me. No offense taken if no one else is equally wowed - I'm well used to fangirling my impressive collection of strange, unpopular fandoms all by myself.;)

I am all for long weekends :) And yay you for being productive. I hope you can rest up and survive your time of the month. Thank you for the Sinead O'Connor link. I hadn't heard that song before. I love Nothing Compares To You. I saw her sing live once, with Sarah McLachlan, and she was late and rude and everyone was getting annoyed with her, but then she sang Nothing Compares and no one cared anymore. I was blown away.

I know. Everyone loves Nothing Compares 2U. And I'm fine with that - I just find it a tiny bit annoying that even though Sinead wrote so many great songs, most people only remember this one, which isn't even HER song. LOL

But yeah, she could sing a grocery list and I would be blown away.;P

I think that happens with a lot of artists, there's this one song that they're most known for. I also love I Believe In You and I'm listening to it right now. ♥

True, true. I love when you love someone like that. :D

Thank you! <333

You know, it's funny, but I don't think I'd ever heard that song before. At least not all of it. I seem to recall catching a snippet of her singing it live on TV years ago, though. And I remember thinking: Damn, I wish I knew what song that was.

Thank you.:)

You're welcome! Glad to share! I only have a couple of her songs and I don't know how that happened. But I'm glad I could share because I do love this song. :D

Long weekends can be wonderful, especially lazy ones. Take care of yourself as the joy of being a woman hits.

Thank you for sharing the gorgeous video. Sinead has always been a talented artist and a beautiful woman. I can easily understand why you fangirl her.

*hugs*

*hugs back*

What I always loved most about Sinead was that she just kept on being herself - whatever that meant at the time. Not letting others dictate what she should wear, say or sing, you know? When she was an angry, vulnerable young girl with a lot of issues to struggle through, that's who we saw on stage. And when she later became a calm, peaceful, introspective woman on a spiritual journey, she wasn't ashamed of that either. Not every artist has that kind of courage, to stay true to themselves despite other people's expectations (though I can easily think of another example, which I'm sure you recognize ;).
