I don't really have any news. At least, not any RL news worth sharing. BUT... I feel compelled to make another shameful confession. I have been living under a rock. Maybe even under a deep layer of mud. It just totally mystifies me how on earth I could have lived the past 15 years or so without ever hearing about the band CRUXSHADOWS. I mean, they seem to be the hot stuff on the goth scene both in Europe and here in the States. They are actually American (which sort of amazes me, because I hardly know of any Americans even remotely interested in THAT kind of music, LOL), but they have performed with The Cure and the Sisters of Mercy, for God's sake (among other well-known, but less worshipped-by-me European bands). They have toured the freaking world, released, from what I can see, about 20 albums, made scores of videos etc.etc.etc. And yet, somehow, they have managed to completely slip past my attention. Until today. Where was I??? What else am I missing???... How fast can I download their entire mp3 collection?... *LOL*

I guess that's what happens if you don't watch TV or listen to the radio. And I don't, because I am clinically, paranoidally allergic to commercials. That is why I don't even own a TV, and as for the radio, on the rare occasions when I do try to find a station I might like, hearing the first few words of a commercial immediately makes me turn it off. I just don't have the patience - on the list of things I find annoying, commercials rank extremely high, right next to obnoxious salespeople (they are one and the same thing, really) and fanfic authors who write about 'taught skin' or 'throws of passion'.;P Anyway... it would seem that I am completely out of the loop when it comes to the current music scene - even the kind of music I sometimes go to great lengths to search for, not realizing it is rather more mainstream than I thought. Is this a sign of approaching middle age, perhaps?...:P

But I digress. Without further ado, and instead of trying to lamely describe what I'm raving about, I link you to the official website:

http://www.cruxshadows.com/frame.html

As you will surely notice if you follow, the music is a rather catchy blend of goth rock and electronica. And the frontman Rogue (what a perfect name, btw) is also quite tasty.;) Not to mention the fact that the band seems to also include several attractive female backing vocalists/dancers/violinists etc. Strong, hypnotic beat + violins = serious aural bliss for me. I think I'm on overload right now. *feels dizzy*

Oh, how sweet to feel like a teenage fangirl again...;)

With music, it's extremely easy for me. Happens every few months or so.:)

But it's never gonna stop me from fangirling Viggo, if that's what you're worried about.;P

Oh, I'm sorry if it sounded like that. I really just meant that -- finding new things to be enthusiastic about is great, and it happens way too seldom for me. :)

Not really. I was only teasing.;)

And yes, I keep finding new things to be enthusiastic about, but apparently none of that anthusiasm can be shared with anyone on my flist - and that makes me feel a bit alienated. It seems that with some people, LOTR was the only thing keeping us together, so to speak - and now that nearly everyone is leaving the LOTR fandom for various TV shows I don't watch, I can't help but wonder about the purpose of those enthusiastic fangirling posts I make... or the purpose of reading other people's fangirling posts, lol. It's not an exchange any more - just a series of monologues, you know?...

I don't know... The Crüxshadows were on RingCon a few years back and I was under the impression that the crowd as a whole was a little nonplussed by the music. It sounded like EBM from the 80s *shrugs*. Not my kind of music in any case (I generally need more guitars).

But yay you! New fandoms are always fun:)

I think I see what you mean - when I saw that some of their albums were categorized as 'synthpop', I freaked out a little.;) But apparently I don't mind synthpop if it's mixed with goth.:D

Besides, I'm old enough not to care about labels as long as the music sounds appealing. And I did grow up in the eighties after all, so there could be some nostalgia factor involved.:P

But I love more guitars too, I really do. When it comes to music, I'm a ravenous omnivore. Well, almost... I can't stand hip-hop or jazz, but other than that, pretty much anything goes.:D

I've grown up in the 80s as well, but I didn't like too many parts of its pop culture ("Dirty Dancing" being the one glorious exception *g*).

Oh, as for stuff you might like. Have I recced Zeraphine to you yet? Maybe they'll be to your liking as well?

I didn't actually see Dirty Dancing until sometime in the late 90s, I think.:)

Have I recced Zeraphine to you yet?

No, you haven't, and I don't think I've ever heard of them. I'll be sure to check them out.:D

It's a German band, which I only discovered by accident. I really like their stuff, though. Very melancholic.

Melancholic sounds good.:) And I think I saw the name 'Zeraphine' flash by as I was going through Cruxshadows vids on YouTube... so it should be easy enough to find them there.:D

Oh, nice. :D I have heard of them for years but only the name, never the music. What is up with that?

I find that it happens to me a lot, with various bands/artists - you just don't have the time to 'check out' every name you keep hearing about, lol. But with Cruxshadows, I don't even recall hearing the name before, which is really strange. I thought at first they were a brand new arrival on the musical scene - and then I saw the discography, starting in 1993. Well, I have a long history of being late to the party on so many things... LOL.

Time is an issue, for sure. I make mental notes to check out someone and then forget, as well, which doesn't help.

I went through a Dead Can Dance phase, and I still love them, and I'm fairly sure that's when I first heard of Cruxshadows, but I could be wrong.

The important thing is, you're here now :)

Oh yes. Happens all the time.:)

I went through a Dead Can Dance phase

Me too, me too!:D But that seems such a looong time ago... I mean, I still love them, but I'm not up-to-date when it comes to their music.

And it seems rather unlikely to me that they would be mentioned alongside the Cruxshadows. There is hardly anything the two bands have in common. I guess they could both be classified as 'darkwave' (which is a dreadfully broad term, imo) - but that's about as far as the similarity goes, lol.

It would make much more sense to associate them with, say, the Sisters of Mercy. I was just thinking that some of their songs remind me strongly of the early Sisters - which, in my book, is a Very Good Thing.:D
