Another week flew by. Thursday was spent in bed with a bad case of food poisoning. All because I decided it would be nice not to have to cook from scratch every once in a while, and bought some coconut-crusted tilapia fillets. They seemed innocent enough, but I can't think of anything else I ate that might have caused such major stomach disturbance. I never get sick from my own home-cooked food, and the oven-baked potato chips or brussel sprouts in butter sauce I had on the side with the fish are certainly NOT guilty either, because I'd had them before with no unpleasant consequences whatsoever. Anyway... lesson learned - yet again. Healthy eating = cooking from scratch = the only way that works for me, no matter how much time and planning it takes and how tempting it is to let go sometimes, if only for once. Frozen entrees - even the supposedly 'healthy' ones - don't like me, and they're out to get me, LOL. And as for saving time, I'd much rather have spent that Thursday afternoon cooking than lying down in a fetal position with a bag of frozen peas pressed to my forehead.:/

Yesterday I finally visited my sister and her husband's new apartment (they moved a few months ago, but they're always so busy, there just wasn't a good time to drop by). It's a cool old-fashioned place in a quiet suburb by the lake. Looks almost like a summer house in a tiny European town, with a wooden deck facing away from the street, plenty of trees, and the quaint German-style buildings all around. Perfect surroundings for artists to live in.:) I also met the resident cat, Precious, who gave me the official seal of approval by jumping onto my lap and making herself comfortable there for at least an hour (and nearly crushing my stomach in the process - it's a very substantial cat, to put it mildly ;). And my sister showed me their art school's new website, which she's been working on (still under construction, but looking great), as well as their profile on Facebook. For those who do hang around Facebook, it's called the Ravenswood Atelier. You can see most of my sister's paintings under "faculty art". There are also cool pics of the school itself - namely the giant art studio, located just a few blocks away from where I live. I've been there several times, admiring some of the paintings as 'works in progress'. It's a supercool, amazing thing that my baby sister is a 'co-founder and principal instructor' in an art school, isn't it? I still can't believe it sometimes. At least some people in this world are able to make their dreams come true...

Other than that, I don't have any news. Just a little bit of gushing over Dany&Dany's latest comic, Anima.

It is absolutely gorgeous. I didn't think those ladies could get any better... but the drawings are becoming more graceful and refined with every new book, the storylines always surprise with some clever twist, and the characters have way more depth to them than your typical pretty boys from a yaoi comic. In other words, it isn't just eye candy and porn.;P Not that there's anything wrong with that - I've read some yaoi that didn't go beyond that, and I've enjoyed it on occasion. And I have some other 'lesser' favorites - but nothing else ever came close to Dany&Dany. Their style is all I could possibly want in a manga. Maybe because they're European, and their sense of the aesthetic, drama or humor appeals to my own European mind more than the typically Japanese manga ever could. Or maybe because all their protagonists have such delightfully sharp-angled faces, expressive eyes and sensual mouths. It's a deadly combination, which I have always found totally irresistible, in art as well as in 'real' people. No examples necessary if you've ever seen any of my numerous celebrity crushes... LOL.

Will shut up now and go read some LOTR fic, because yes, I am one of those few strange people for whom the LOTR fandom isn't dead yet, even though the likelihood of finding any mentions of it on my flist these days equals the likelihood of finding a needle in a haystack. Thank God for archives, old rec lists and memories... lol. *nostalgic sigh*

And no, I don't need a new fandom. I have plenty of fandoms, I just don't happen to share any of them with more than 1-2 people here. And LOTR is still my favorite one, and will be for a long time to come, no matter how often some of my flisters move on to the proverbial 'greener pastures'. That's just how I am, and I have resigned myself to it. I always 'come late to the party' when it comes to fandoms, and stay there feeding on leftovers long after everyone else had left. In a way, it's a very good metaphor of my general approach to life, I suppose. *shrug* But I won't elaborate on that, because it's Sunday night and I should be in bed less than two hours from now.:D

i've so far resisted the facebook urge

I never really felt the urge to join, but several people sent me invitations, and finally I caved in. I don't expect I'll be spending much time over there, though. I'm not too thrilled with the concept of the site. It lacks two things I like most about being online: 1)long, rambly posts/fiction etc.; 2) anonymity. Being there feels like just making small talk with strangers, and I don't see much point in that. *shrug*

you'll have to post the website when it's available?

Oh, I definitely will.;D

And you are one of the few distinguished veterans who still actively participate in the LOTR(ips) fandom.;) I applaud you for that.:D
