The thing is, I was actually considering dropping one of my credit cards and applying for a new one anyway... I have one from Citibank, you see, and now that I've actually caught up onto some basic facts about the world we live in, I don't feel comfortable having anything to do with Citibank anymore.:/ Plus, their annual fee is ridiculous, and they recently charged me $39 (!!!) for a late payment (which wasn't my fault at all, since I didn't receive their email statement/reminder until AFTER the payment was due). So I was thinking I it might be a good idea to cancel that account before my current card expires (which will happen in February). But then the condo thing came up, and supposedly cancelling a credit card account can hurt your credit... so I thought, OK, I'll wait till I get that loan approval and THEN cancel the card. And now I don't know what to do anymore.:(
As for my other card, which I was going to keep (my first one, actually, from Alliant Credit Union, with whom I have a savings account) - I did send them a copy of the court document proving the name change along with one of my recent checks, but they must have somehow ignored it, because I just received a new card from them and it still has the old name on it.:/
Of course, if you were looking for an excuse to get out of the whole thing, this works. ;)
I don't mind if it does, but I'm afraid my mother will not buy it and will probably come up with a solution - like the one you suggested above.:P
