Another update. I couldn't wait for February and called one of the numbers on my "check out later" list... and made an appointment for this morning. To see a place that will become available in March. Well, not actually the place itself, since someone is still living there - but an identical (or so I was told, lol) apartment in the same building. A very spacious studio, a bit run down, but still better looking than most I have seen so far (except the one I had applied for, and the one I would have applied for if it wasn't taken already...). It's $550 a month + elecricity and cooking gas (which means about $600; plus internet, of course). The location is very quiet, about 8 miles from my workplace. I didn't fall in love with the place, but I like it well enough; so I took the application home with me to fill it out and mail it in next week (the rental office is located at a different address, and besides, it was closed for the weekend anyway). And since I am the first person applying for this particular apartment, I might actually have a chance of being accepted (or so I tell myself... lol). I am not going to stop looking around for something else while I wait for them to get back to me - but if they do, I'll take it. It has windows on both sides letting plenty of light in, hardwood floor in the main room and tiles in the kitchen, a bathroom with a tub, a little entrance hall (so you don't step right into your living space from the corridor; which, unfortunately, is the case with many studios) and quite a few roomy closets here and there. I think I could get used to living there.:) So whoever's reading this - keep your fingers crossed for me.:)

And now, on a completely different note... I finally saw the movie Better than Chocolate. And found it delightful, for a number of reasons. Read more... )

So... I guess that's it for now. Since my roommate is having her big party here tonight - and I hate big parties, unless they're blatantly gay-friendly ;) - I decided to drag my sorry ass for a sleepover to my parents' house. Mom & Dad will be happy, and I don't actually mind it that much either. I mean, sure, no DSL and all; but maybe I'll use the time to organize some of the stuff littering my bedroom there, throw out old junk mail, check out what home appliances they have in surplus amounts, so that I wouldn't have to buy EVERYTHING when I move etc.etc. And maybe I'll even stop to have a cursory look around IKEA on my way back here tomorrow. Anyway... time to get going. Might not be internet-active for the next couple days... not that anything could keep me away from LJ for too long.:D
