Another update. I couldn't wait for February and called one of the numbers on my "check out later" list... and made an appointment for this morning. To see a place that will become available in March. Well, not actually the place itself, since someone is still living there - but an identical (or so I was told, lol) apartment in the same building. A very spacious studio, a bit run down, but still better looking than most I have seen so far (except the one I had applied for, and the one I would have applied for if it wasn't taken already...). It's $550 a month + elecricity and cooking gas (which means about $600; plus internet, of course). The location is very quiet, about 8 miles from my workplace. I didn't fall in love with the place, but I like it well enough; so I took the application home with me to fill it out and mail it in next week (the rental office is located at a different address, and besides, it was closed for the weekend anyway). And since I am the first person applying for this particular apartment, I might actually have a chance of being accepted (or so I tell myself... lol). I am not going to stop looking around for something else while I wait for them to get back to me - but if they do, I'll take it. It has windows on both sides letting plenty of light in, hardwood floor in the main room and tiles in the kitchen, a bathroom with a tub, a little entrance hall (so you don't step right into your living space from the corridor; which, unfortunately, is the case with many studios) and quite a few roomy closets here and there. I think I could get used to living there.:) So whoever's reading this - keep your fingers crossed for me.:)

And now, on a completely different note... I finally saw the movie Better than Chocolate. And found it delightful, for a number of reasons. If I had known it was so great, I would have seen it long ago - but some of those cult gay movies are overrated, you know? So I am quite pleased to announce that this one isn't. It's sweet, tender, funny, uplifting and quite educational in its unobtrusive way.:) Besides, the heroine, Maggie, looked (and sometimes acted) quite a lot like me from about 10-15 years ago... and her beau, Kim, also reminded me of a Very Special Someone.;) So watching this movie was almost like an eerie trip down memory lane.:P (oh, the days of making out in a public bathroom...:D) Hell, even Maggie's mother was a lot like mine in some ways. *snort* Oh, and the girl-sex looked very natural and HOT, as well as sweet and loving... simply yummy. *deep sigh* But, for some reason, my favorite character was Judy the tranny. I really have a soft spot for trannies. They probably have the hardest time of all in the queer community; they can be discriminated against by pretty much any social group they might possibly find themselves in...

So... I guess that's it for now. Since my roommate is having her big party here tonight - and I hate big parties, unless they're blatantly gay-friendly ;) - I decided to drag my sorry ass for a sleepover to my parents' house. Mom & Dad will be happy, and I don't actually mind it that much either. I mean, sure, no DSL and all; but maybe I'll use the time to organize some of the stuff littering my bedroom there, throw out old junk mail, check out what home appliances they have in surplus amounts, so that I wouldn't have to buy EVERYTHING when I move etc.etc. And maybe I'll even stop to have a cursory look around IKEA on my way back here tomorrow. Anyway... time to get going. Might not be internet-active for the next couple days... not that anything could keep me away from LJ for too long.:D

Awwwwwww, it is such a sweet movie. You've made me wanna watch again (and squee at Maggie for being like you). It's one of the first gay movies I saw, and I'm so glad it was. Left me with a real craving for more gay movies because it's that good.

And YES to everything you said about trannies. Sad, isn't it?

Hope you had a good time at your parents'. *HUG!*

Squeeeee!!! So good to see you here. *squenches* And I love your icon.:D

Gay movies are addicting.;) I think the first one I ever saw was "The Crying Game" - and back then it was quite a shocker for my young innocent self.:D It might also have started my fascination with transgendered people...

And parents are nice every once in a way, in small doses.;P

Oh, and it's so, so good to have a bit of free time, so I can be here! :D *squishes* And thank you! Glad to hear...

Aren't they? I heard about The Crying Game, but I didn't get it until I was, well, older. Certainly didn't get to see it. Loved it when I did see it, though. The first one I ever saw was Priest. Am still in love with that one!

As long as it is in small doses, right? ;) *smoooooooooooshes on you* ♥

Heh. I LOVED Priest. But can you imagine what went on when that movie was first played in theaters in Poland?... There were DEMONSTRATIONS against it! (mainly consisting of bigotry-ridden grannies who had never seen the film or knew anything about it, other than that it portrayed a homosexual CATHOLIC priest, which was in itself an unthinkable abomination... lol) Which of course greatly contributed to the film's popularity (some people, who otherwise wouldn't have cared either way, saw the movie just to find out what this whole big hoolabaloo was about).

And the most ironic thing about it all is that at least 50% of Catholic priests are gay, imo. Because, among other things, becoming a priest gives them a convenient excuse not to marry, in a society where there is a lot of pressure on pretty much everyone (especially in rural areas) to get married by the age of thirty. Besides, Catholic priest are very highly respected and can pretty much get away with anything - or at least that's how it used to be, before all those paedophilic scandals involving the Church that came to light in recent years.:P

Anyway... coming back to the subject of gay movies - have you seen Aimee & Jaguar? Because if you haven't, you must. I seriously worship this film, and cry every time I see it. *sigh*

I didn't know that. 8| You'd think people would just stay away from it if they don't like the idea, or at least watch the movie first. People's ignorance can so get to me sometimes. I could seriously hurt those people. Then again, it's so cool that the movie was even more popular due to this! :D Serves them right!

That's what I was thinking of as well. What bugs me is how people may (and probably do) confuse the gay priests with the paedophilic ones. It angers me so much when people treat homosexuality and peadophilia as though they were one and the same. In the church, where both are still a scandalous matter and must be hidden, it's even easier for people not to distinguish them. GRRR!

:( It sounds like an incredible movie, but nope, I haven't.

Yes, it is quite irritating. As well as very sad. In a religion that basically doesn't encourage people to think too much for themselves, it seems somehow irresistible to just throw anything out of the ordinary into one big sack with "SIN" written on it in flaming red letters. *sigh* Why should the difference between helpless children and consenting adults matter, if it concerns something that's not SUPPOSED to be done?... *stops herself before embarking on a long, angry rant*

As for the movie... yes, it is incredible. It's based on a true story of love between two women - one German (a typical Nazi housewife, I might add), the other one Jewish - during World War II. I first saw it at a festival of Jewish culture in Poland, sometime around 2000. Then, a few years later, I paid almost $30 to get it from Amazon (but it's worth every penny). It's the crown of my DVD collection.:D
