this and that
May. 7th, 2009 10:22 pmWe had our annual reviews at work yesterday. The boss said she was pleased with me and wished she could give me a raise. I know wishing is all she can do for the time being - but it was nice to hear anyway.
Btw, my workplace is hiring for part-time work-at-home positions, and our HR manager was asking for employee recommendations. Which immediately made me think of
akashaelfwitch. She already had a successful phone interview and is supposed to come in for another one on-site next week. I am almost certain she will get hired at this point, but keeping your fingers crossed can't hurt, of course.:)
In other news, I seem to be gaining weight again. Just as slowly and unobtrusively as I was losing before, but still. And I haven't been doing anything outrageous in the feeding department - just little things here and there that maybe should have been avoided, but up until recently didn't really seem to make a difference. Must be the age thing catching up with me.:/ According to WeightWatchers, once you cross the magic border between age 37 and 38, your daily allowance drops down another point. So, if you happen to be a woman slightly over 5 feet in height, weighing less than 140 lbs, and living a pretty sedate lifestyle, you only need 18 points a day. Which is the lowest score anyone can live on and still be properly nourished, lol. I'm not sure what is the exact calorie equivalent, but I suppose it would be somewhere around 1800 - which is the recommended daily intake for small, inactive people, isn't it? Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm consuming more than that - however healthy and nutricious most of it is. It's simple math, really, and I just can't be bothered to do the measuring/counting etc. anymore. So maybe I don't care if I'm a few pounds above my 'ideal' weight. But what if the gaining doesn't stop there? I just don't want it to 'creep up' on me unawares like it did before... *sigh*

Date: 2009-05-08 09:03 am (UTC)As for weight...I swear, I don't get it. I exercise and try and eat better and I put on weight, I don't do anything and I lose weight...I give up.

Date: 2009-05-09 03:22 am (UTC)They used to freak me out too, but this is my third year at the same workplace, and I pretty much know what to expect of my boss, so it's not so bad anymore.:)
Yeah, weight issues are confusing, and there doesn't seem to be a very predictable correlation between how hard you try and what results you get, lol. Probably because there are other factors involved that we may not be aware of (like the amount of stress in your life, your monthly cycle, any medication/dietary supplement you might be taking etc.). One thing I've discovered is that eating better makes you feel better, whether you lose weight or not. Of course losing weight makes you feel better too, physically AND mentally, but it's not the goal by itself - at least not for me. It's more of a by-product of a healthy lifestyle.;)
Despite of all this theoretical wisdom, I'm well aware I don't get nearly enough physical activity on a daily basis. I just can't seem to find the time. I probably would if I completely ditched the internet, though. Ah, priorities, priorities... *sigh* :P

Date: 2009-05-09 03:33 am (UTC)Well, she would be working from home, so we wouldn't really be seeing much more of each other than we do now. Which is probably a good thing, considering the fact that when we do see each other, we talk mostly about LOTR slash, yaoi manga or vampire erotica - none of which are really good workplace topics.;P
*hugs back*

Date: 2009-05-10 09:16 am (UTC)No predictable correlation at all *g* But I think you're right, and I agree, it's about being healthy. That's the important thing. I'm trying to increase the amount I exercise but I have to do it first thing in the morning, or I won't do it at all, so. Fun, fun. Ditching the internet? No ;P

Date: 2009-05-10 04:20 pm (UTC)In the evening though, after a long day of sitting in a chair, in can be actually pleasant to stretch out the stiff, tired muscles.:) Though I usually need to apply a heating pad to my neck first, so I don't break it while trying to stretch.:/ And sometimes the heating pad makes me feel so relaxed I don't really wanna move.:P

Date: 2009-05-10 07:14 pm (UTC)I won't do it in the evening because I've been standing up most of the day and I'm really not in the mood. I just want to eat my tea, watch TV and then go to bed. *g*
Some people just aren't built for exercise ;D

Date: 2009-05-11 01:43 am (UTC)Oh yes, I hear ya. If I had to stand up at work, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be feeling like exercising in the evenings either.
Some people just aren't built for exercise ;D
Yeah, that's what we keep telling ourselves.:P

Date: 2009-05-13 01:47 am (UTC)I am particularly terrible in the winter when it's dark and I get home then and just want to get in my jammies.
Oh yes. Actually, most days I do get into my jammies right away - or pull on an old pair of pajama bottoms over my underwear and spend the rest of the evening in this classy attire.:P
